“Xiao Hei, have you sensed any powerful presence on this island?” The words seemed to vanish into thin air, and it was clear that the divine abilities spoken of by the Demon Beast were no trivial matter.
“No, I haven’t detected any strong aura,” Xiao Hei replied after carefully scanning the surroundings, sensing his leader's caution. Only after confirming there was nothing unusual did he respond to Mo Wen.
“Let’s take it step by step; it might just be a bluff,” Mo Wen muttered to himself. Perhaps he was too tense; while caution was necessary, he might have been overly cautious. With the Illusion Pearl in hand, even if they couldn't win a fight, escaping shouldn't be a problem. With that thought in mind, he took out the largest Illusion Pearl and held it in his hand as he and Xiao Hei ventured deeper into the island.
After two days of walking on the island, they finally arrived at the water source. Surrounded by mountains, dozens of small peaks formed a crater-like shape around the water source. The valleys between the mountains served as passages for the Demon Beasts entering and exiting the water source. The Demon Beasts lined up like pilgrims in the valley, continuously moving in and out, while Winged Beasts occasionally swooped down to join the procession. Above the mountain entrance, mist swirled, forming a cloud cluster that enveloped the area. Instead of following the Demon Beast procession into the water source through the valley, Mo Wen chose to ascend one of the peaks directly.
Standing atop the mountain and looking down, he saw that the crater was about ten miles wide, dotted with lakes of various sizes. The lakes were interconnected by channels that formed a network of water linking them together. In the center of one large lake, water bubbled up vigorously; that must be the spring. The water flowing from the spring traveled along the channels to fill each lake.
Due to a lack of water, the Demon Beasts in the Lava Sea had long evolved into extremely heat-resistant varieties, significantly reducing their need for water. Their fur had transformed into thick scales that not only protected them from the intense heat of lava but also minimized moisture loss from their bodies. They could drink enough water at once to last several years or even decades without needing to replenish it. Nevertheless, water remained essential for their survival.
Watching the Demon Beasts in the valley made Mo Wen feel uneasy; these creatures were all formidable beings. Without his Illusion Pearl, encountering them would likely mean only one thing—escape. However, everything in the valley seemed peaceful at that moment; the Demon Beasts entering to drink appeared to be obeying some divine will, restraining their auras and quietly lining up to drink before leaving.
“How incredible!” Mo Wen couldn’t help but exclaim as he observed the scene below. It seemed that this place had not suffered from Lava Storms; the sparse vegetation by the lakes was strong evidence of that.
To Xiao Hei’s eyes, those lakes looked like enormous hot pots; with water available, they could enjoy hot pot meals—something his leader had told him. Glancing at Mo Wen beside him, he noticed that there was no immediate intention to rush down. “Boss, what are we waiting for?” Xiao Hei asked, puzzled by Mo Wen’s calm demeanor. Earlier, Boss Mo had been anxious about finding a water source, but now that water was right below them, he was hesitating on top of the mountain instead of going down to collect it.
“Waiting for that deity to appear,” Mo Wen replied. He too wished to fetch some water, but knowing there was supposedly a ‘god’ present made him cautious. Moreover, everything below felt abnormal—the springwater, trees by its edge, and previous intense Lava Storms along with fighting could lead to unexpected consequences if they weren’t careful. All these factors combined made Mo Wen feel something was off.
