In the center of this cold sea of Lava, several pure white lotus flowers floated. The larger ones measured over two feet across, while the smaller ones were only the size of a bowl. Their petals were carved like beautiful jade, as white as snow and as smooth as cream, exuding a chilling aura that drifted outward.
Watching the flames rising from the sea in the distance, Mo Wen frowned. The scene was strikingly similar to that of a Lava Spirit, but unlike before, he felt no essence of fire despite the heat; instead, the spiritual energy of fire near that sea was pitifully thin. Could it be a mutated Lava Spirit?
"Boss, I can't see what's going on in there. It wouldn't be that meatless creature again, would it?" Xiao Hei sniffed, carefully discerning the aura coming from ahead. This scent was too reminiscent of the previous meatless creature but felt slightly different, leaving him uncertain. With all of the boss's beads taken by that water person, if they encountered another meatless creature, he might not even need to pluck feathers for a tribute.
"Don't worry; let's get a bit closer first." It wasn't that he was confident in dealing with a Lava Spirit; rather, these creatures tended to stay in one place and couldn't launch an attack on their own. As long as he was careful and didn't fall into a trap, he would be fine. "Xiao Hei, keep an eye out for any powerful Demon Beast auras."
"Got it!" Regardless, having something to do was Xiao Hei's greatest joy at the moment.
He anchored the boat on the surface of the sea. From here, he could no longer see the full extent of the fire sea; all that lay before him was a patch of Lava constantly flickering with flames. He released his Divine Perception, feeling an intense heat emanating from the Divine Sea. As his perception extended, this heat intensified until it felt as if the entire Divine Sea might ignite without revealing the end of this fiery expanse.
"Xiao Hei, it's up to you to check inside and see what's going on." Since he couldn't probe into it himself, he had to rely on Xiao Hei's abilities. Aside from his keen eyesight and sensitive nose, this guy didn't seem to have much else to offer.
"Boss, I can't see what's happening inside," Xiao Hei replied with a hint of worry in his voice. This situation resembled that of the previous meatless creature but had its differences.
This seemed consistent with how Fire Lotuses grew—extreme cold in an extremely hot place could block sensory probing. There were no characteristics of a Lava Spirit here; if it truly were one, such bait wouldn't attract any Demon Beasts. Although it was unclear whether Lava Spirits possessed intelligence, they would act in ways beneficial for hunting when it came to feeding. If there truly was a Fire Lotus among them, it would pose a significant challenge; this sea of fire was the first obstacle blocking his path. To cross it, he would have to endure its searing heat.
"What should we do, Boss?" Seeing Mo Wen remain silent, Xiao Hei pressed for an answer.
"It's fine; we should be okay. Let's just take a look." Mo Wen's idea of looking meant steering the boat around the edge of the fire sea. Besides observing its size, he primarily aimed to acclimate himself to this piercing heat.
"Get ready; we're going in for a closer look." Feeling that he had adapted sufficiently, he steered the boat into the heart of the fire sea.
"Boss, are we really just going in like this?" Xiao Hei questioned with uncertainty; it seemed his boss hadn't thought this through much.
"Of course! We’ll take it step by step. Risks must be taken; nothing is ever guaranteed." Since there was no surefire way to ensure safety, Mo Wen decided it was time to take a chance.
