Looking at Xiao Hei at the bow of the boat made Mo Wen feel uneasy; this feeling was one of envy and jealousy. It seemed like everything except eating was irrelevant to this guy.
“Boss! It's burnt! Boss! It's burnt!” Seeing the charred Beast Leg, Xiao Hei cried out anxiously.
“Senior Lu, what secret do I have that makes you act this way?” It seemed he didn’t hear Xiao Hei’s shouts and muttered to himself.
“I wish for freedom, yet I have become part of this scheme!” Standing up and tossing aside the charred Beast Leg, he gazed out at the distant sea with a sigh.
“It’s over! The boss has gone mad!” Seeing the discarded Beast Leg and looking at Boss Mo's demeanor confirmed what was said about madmen in books.
After satisfying their hunger, they took out tools and carved out a cave in the mountainside. The cave had two chambers: inner and outer. After setting up a Magic Circle and instructing Xiao Hei to keep watch, Mo Wen turned and entered the inner chamber. His nerves were taut from retrieving the Fire Lotus; he needed to relax after thinking so much. Although many things remained unclear, he realized he was still part of this scheme. Though reluctant, there was nothing he could do about it; perhaps it was for better or worse. At this moment, Mo Wen understood that overthinking seemed meaningless; his strength did not allow him to achieve what he desired.
Xiao Hei’s first step of transformation had been completed, and now with the Fire Lotus in hand, their journey in the Lava Sea could finally come to an end. The sudden ease brought on by resolving everything made him feel drowsy; he needed to sleep. He spread out some Beast Skin on a reserved stone platform and collapsed into sleep.
Xiao Hei stood dazedly in place watching Boss Mo enter the inner chamber. He was still in shock; today his boss had been unusually erratic—first going mad, then returning to normal, cooking a meal, and now appearing mad again. Something must have triggered this behavior; otherwise, he wouldn’t have lost his mind like that.
