The scorching sun made everyone feel dizzy, but fortunately, the young people were full of energy. However, Miss Xin was starting to struggle. When they stopped at the Whale Cave, she pointed everyone toward the beach while she stayed back in the shade of a tree by the bus, trying to escape the heat.
Luo Yu and a group of classmates were jumping around on the various rocks near the water's edge. Their first task was, of course, to take photos for memories. After that, everyone scattered into small groups to explore.
Luo Yu, Hua Ying, and Feng Min naturally gathered together, playing in a small tide pool with a couple of boys. When Zhang Liang approached them, Luo Yu had been ignoring him ever since she found out about his strange relationship with Feng Min. Zhang Liang, feeling awkward, turned to chat with Hua Ying and the others instead.
Zhu Wei, noticing Luo Yu’s disinterest, waded over and asked her, “What’s wrong? You used to have so much to talk about with Zhang Liang.”
“Hmph, stupid boys,” Luo Yu replied disdainfully. “You’re all the same—stupid boys.”
“Hey? What does that have to do with me?” Zhu Wei said innocently. Seeing Luo Yu looking downcast, he added, “Look! There’s a fish by your feet!”
“Really? Where?” Luo Yu leaned down to look.
“There! There!”
“I don’t see it!” Luo Yu bent lower.
“Right here! Look!” Zhu Wei splashed water with his foot. As Luo Yu leaned down even further, he playfully tapped her nose with his toes and laughed, “Gotcha! It’s a salty fish!”
He burst into laughter and quickly ran away. Furious, Luo Yu yelled and chased after him but couldn’t catch up. Instead, she splashed water at him. Zhu Wei stumbled away toward where more people were gathered while Luo Yu continued her pursuit. Suddenly, everyone was caught off guard by the wave of water; they froze for a moment before jumping up to retaliate. In no time at all, water was flying everywhere as they splashed each other without knowing who their opponents were.
Zhu Wei took advantage of the chaos to slip away and sat on a nearby rock to watch the fun unfold. Luo Yu, Hua Ying, and Feng Min found themselves becoming targets for everyone’s splashing. Soaked through, their T-shirts clung tightly to their bodies; Feng Min’s brown shirt was somewhat forgiving but still accentuated her curves. In contrast, Luo Yu and Hua Ying wore white shirts that appeared almost transparent when wet, clearly outlining their bras beneath. With their ample figures swaying as they moved, it was no wonder the boys were eager to splash them.
Eventually, it was Hua Ying who noticed first. She pulled Luo Yu aside and whispered something in her ear. Luo Yu looked down and realized her shirt had become too revealing; blushing furiously, she took Hua Ying's hand and they both left the fray to head back toward the shore. Just then, Zhu Wei was sitting there grinning at their predicament.
“What are you looking at?” Hua Ying crossed her arms over her chest defensively.
Only Luo Yu knew that he was actually the instigator of this whole mess. Annoyed, she splashed water at him again. Zhu Wei didn’t dodge; instead, he let the water drench him completely. Seeing his wet hair and face made Luo Yu chuckle despite herself. Zhu Wei took off his T-shirt and handed it to Luo Yu to cover herself while he was left in just his tank top.
“Oh…” Hua Ying said teasingly. “You guys are up to something! You fatso! Why are you being so nice to Luo Yu? What about me?”
“You’re fine,” Zhu Wei replied casually. “We’re classmates; I’m just sharing some fun—can’t let all the good stuff go to waste.”
Hua Ying playfully grabbed his ear in frustration as all three burst into laughter.
From a distance, Zhang Liang watched Luo Yu with a hint of melancholy in his heart while Feng Min continued playing in the tide pool nearby. Feeling aimless, he turned back toward the shore; there was still half an hour until they needed to regroup anyway. He decided it would be best to head back to the bus.
Carrying his shoes in hand, he walked back up toward the vehicle when he heard someone behind him say, “Why are you back already?”
It was Miss Xin. He replied casually, “It’s too hot.”
“Yeah,” she agreed. “It is hot! But here is nice—there’s shade and a breeze; it feels much cooler.”
