Lying on the large bed in the hotel, I felt a sense of confusion wash over me.
Why did I buy a scrap recycling company in the first place?
Ran Ran had clearly advised me to wait until after the inspection before making any decisions.
Why was I so impatient?
Now, the business deal had fallen through, and I found myself stuck in Shenzhen.
Would Ma Tao laugh at me?
The thought made my nose tingle, and tears streamed down my face.
I cried for a long time while lying on the bed.
Eventually, exhaustion took over, and I fell asleep.
In a daze, my phone rang.
It was Ma Tao calling.
Without thinking, I hung up the phone.
But Ma Tao persisted, calling again and again.
With no choice left, I answered the call. “Hello?”
“Where are you?” Ma Tao asked coldly.
“In Shenzhen,” I replied honestly.
“What are you doing in Shenzhen?” he questioned.
“Negotiating a business deal,” I choked out. “Just leave me alone!”
“Yu Lixuan!” he snapped in a low voice. “Don’t forget the task I assigned to you!”
“I only gave you three days. You have two days left to convince me to take over your scrap business!”
"If you can't do it, then our agreement is void!"
With that, he hung up the phone.
Listening to the beeping sound from my phone, tears streamed down my face once again.
Ma Tao is such a jerk!
That dog of a man!
What a scoundrel!
I cursed for a long time, then curled up in my blanket and cried bitterly.
After crying for what felt like an eternity, my phone rang again.
It was Ma Tao calling.
I didn't want to answer.
But he kept calling.
With no other choice, I picked up the phone. "Hello?"
"Where are you?" he asked.
"At the hotel," I sniffled. "Just leave me alone!"
"Which hotel?" he asked coldly.
Is he coming over to confront me?
No way, right?
I bit my lip. "Ma Tao, I know I was wrong."
"I shouldn't have ignored your words, nor should I have disregarded Ran Ran's advice."
"I've already been punished, please don't punish me anymore."
"Yu Lixuan!" he shouted, "What are you going crazy about?"
"I'm not going crazy!" I cried, "I know you hate me, you wish I were dead."
"But I really know I've made a mistake."
"Please, don't treat me like this anymore."
Ma Tao was silent for a moment before asking, "Which hotel are you at?"
"The Shangri-La Hotel," I answered through my tears.
He was quiet for a while, then said, "I've already checked in here."
I was shocked.
Ma Tao was coming to Shenzhen?
What was he coming for?
Was it to see me make a fool of myself?
"Have you eaten?" he asked coldly.
"No," I sniffed, "I don't want to eat."
"I'll have room service bring food over," he said decisively before hanging up the phone.
Before long, room service delivered the meal.
As I looked at the dishes Ma Tao had ordered, tears streamed down my face again.
They were all my favorite foods.
How could he still remember?
It had been so long since we broke up.
I was eating when I suddenly started to cry again.
Ma Tao looked at me and asked, "What are you crying about?"
"Don't mind me!" I put down my chopsticks and walked towards the bedroom. "I'm going to sleep!"
Ma Tao didn't say anything.
After finishing dinner, he went to take a shower.
I sat on the bed, lost in thought.
The biggest obstacle between Ma Tao and me was my own insecurity.
I felt unworthy of him.
So I had always been afraid to face my feelings.
But now I realized that I could do it!
As long as I was willing to put in the effort, I could definitely make it happen!
With that thought, I cheerfully took out my phone and posted on social media: "Keep going!"
Just after posting, I received a comment from Ran Ran: "What does 'Keep going' even mean?"
"It's a meme I've seen recently," I replied to her.
