"It's nothing, just going to pay my respects to my master. With you, Uncle Jiang, here, you can rest assured," Zeng Xianyi said as he removed his granddaughter's hand.
"Grandpa, can we not go to pay respects?" Zeng Wenwen's eyes were brimming with tears.
"No," Zeng Xianyi's expression darkened immediately.
With no other choice, Zeng Wenwen steeled herself and walked toward the painting of the mountain temple. However, she felt a twinge of curiosity in her heart.
"Is it really possible for people to live inside this painting?" Zeng Wenwen asked in disbelief, her gaze scanning the artwork. Suddenly, she felt a wave of dizziness; after a moment of blankness in her mind, when she regained her senses, she found herself in a dense forest.
Just two days ago, while looking at the mountain temple painting, Zeng Wenwen's consciousness had also entered it, but that time was fuzzy, almost like a dream. This time, however, everything felt incredibly real—the trees were lush and green, and she could hear birds chirping nearby. She reached out and pinched a leaf beside her; it was cool to the touch. Everything was too vivid.
"Come on, let's go find your master," a voice suddenly called out. Zeng Wenwen turned to see Jiang Chen standing beside her.
"Uncle Jiang, is this really inside the painting?" Zeng Wenwen asked shyly. Since her consciousness had been brought here by Jiang Chen, the restrictions of this place did not affect her; she felt very clear-headed at that moment.
Jiang Chen nodded slightly and began walking up the mountain.
Zeng Wenwen hurried to follow him. Although she had been scared initially, the thought of Uncle Jiang being there reassured her.
"Uncle Jiang, how did we get into the painting? Are you a deity?" Zeng Wenwen caught up with Jiang Chen, her mind racing with questions.
"You'll gradually understand the answer to that question after you pay your respects," Jiang Chen replied.
"Oh." Seeing that Uncle Jiang was unwilling to elaborate further, Zeng Wenwen decided not to ask more questions. She followed him closely, her eyes darting around as she took in her surroundings.
Before long, they arrived at Wuliang Temple.
"Hey, Uncle Jiang! I think I came here yesterday but didn’t go inside because I was scared awake by a monster," Zeng Wenwen said as she looked at the familiar Wuliang Temple.
"You mean this monster?" Jiang Chen pointed at the Bixi carrying a stone tablet and smiled gently.
"Yes, that's the monster!" Zeng Wenwen confirmed but still felt a bit frightened as she hid behind Jiang Chen.
"It's not a monster; it's the divine beast Bixi. You should spend some time reviewing the Classic of Mountains and Seas later," Jiang Chen chuckled.
Zeng Wenwen nodded obediently. Following Jiang Chen into Wuliang Temple, although her cultivation talent was average, she was quite perceptive and good at reading situations. Now that she understood she had to become a female Taoist priestess, she no longer resisted. Given the current situation, her master Ling Mingzi was undoubtedly an extraordinary person—perhaps even a deity.
With this thought in mind, Zeng Wenwen felt no aversion to becoming a Taoist priestess; instead, her mood lightened considerably.
Crossing the threshold into Wuliang Temple, Ling Mingzi stood at the entrance of the main hall with his whisk in hand, dressed neatly and smiling as he watched them enter. Upon seeing Jiang Chen walk in, he quickly approached and maintained proper decorum before him; he dared not be presumptuous in any way.
"Mr. Jiang, thank you for your trouble," Ling Mingzi said respectfully.
"It's nothing; I've brought her here. Do I need to step aside?" Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
"Mr. Jiang is not a stranger, so there is no need for avoidance. Entering my Wuliang Temple originally required some complicated apprenticeship rituals, but now we can simplify things, Zeng Wenwen." Ling Mingzi suddenly called out to Zeng Wenwen.
