That day, Lin Si was not idle. He diligently organized the clothes and supplies he had brought back, cleaned the room, and climbed up and down, soon breaking into a sweat. He even took it upon himself to scrub the bathroom before taking a cold shower, and by then it was nearly noon. So he went out for lunch. With nothing to do in the afternoon and feeling bored, he suddenly thought of Xu Qin. Since it was so hot outside, why not go see her and enjoy some air conditioning at the department store?
Riding his scooter, Lin Si felt relaxed and cheerful. Upon arriving near the department store, he found a covered area in front of a clothing shop to park his scooter. The young female clerk at the shop glared at him with an unhappy expression, but he pretended not to notice and walked into the department store.
He took the escalator down to the basement level and turned to find Xu Qin's flower cart. The cart looked the same, but the girl at the counter had changed. Lin Si was taken aback for a moment as the new girl leaned over with a friendly smile and asked what he liked.
Feeling a bit shy, Lin Si inquired about the previous clerk. She replied that Xu Qin was on leave today but assured him she could help with anything he needed. However, Lin Si found it difficult to articulate his request since Xu Qin's service had been somewhat special to him. So he casually grabbed a handful of candies, settled the bill with her, and left.
Not planning to go anywhere in particular, he wandered aimlessly around the department store. As he passed through the young ladies' section, he noticed two or three new styles that would suit his girlfriend Zhong Wei well, so he couldn't help but linger for a moment.
Suddenly, someone tapped him on the shoulder: "What’s up? A big guy shopping for women's clothes? That's weird!"
As Lin Si turned to see who it was, he found a delicate and charming girl standing there.
"Liang Xinyi!" Lin Si recognized her immediately. They had once shared a wild experience together.
"Mm..." Liang Xinyi said with satisfaction, "You’re not too bad after all."
"What a coincidence running into you," Lin Si said. "What brings you to Ningzhou so early? Where are you studying? Where do you live?"
"Let me think," Liang Xinyi nodded thoughtfully. "Which question should I answer first..."
Both of them laughed. Liang Xinyi continued, "Alright, my school is in Jiangdong, and I live nearby. I'm here in Ningzhou to have a chance encounter with someone at the department store; is that okay?"
"Really?" Lin Si took her small hand. "Did you meet him?"
Liang Xinyi linked her arm through his: "Well, I don’t know! What do you think?"
"Um... I can’t guess," Lin Si said playfully as he tapped her nose with his finger. "How about I accompany you around? Who knows, we might run into him."
"That sounds great!" Liang Xinyi smiled sweetly.
So Lin Si and she walked hand in hand through the department store. They weren’t looking for anything specific; they just chatted and laughed. By the time they had explored the entire building, Lin Si still had a bag of candies in his hand.
"Ah! I'm so tired from walking," Liang Xinyi said. "Um, do you have time to have dinner with me?"
"Now?" Lin Si glanced at his watch. "Dinner at three o'clock?"
"Of course not! Dinner is later!" Liang Xinyi replied.
Lin Si furrowed his brow thoughtfully: "That’s a problem; what will we do for three or four hours?"
"Well, I think we can do some... um, social activities," Liang Xinyi suggested.
"What kind of social activities?" Lin Si asked.
"For example," Liang Xinyi said, her bright eyes wide open, "you could come over to my place for a cup of coffee or something."
"Well," Lin Sixue replied, "that sounds quite nice."
