In the following rounds, we did not score. There were thirty seconds left in the game. After the opponent's serve, Chu Yuetao brought the ball across the midcourt. I took two steps back and caught a glimpse of Coach Luo Qixing signaling again. Taking advantage of my distraction, Chu Yuetao turned and left me behind. Zhou Wenming blocked his path, but Chu Yuetao collided with Zhou Wenming's arm and fell to the ground. The referee blew the whistle again—Zhou Wenming fouled out with six fouls! Our core forward was taken down by Chu Yuetao! Haoshuai jumped up from the bench. As Zhou Wenming passed by us, he said to me, "Brothers, it's up to you now!" Hearing this filled me with mixed emotions. Chu Yuetao stepped up for free throws and made both, bringing the score to 105-106. With twenty-two seconds remaining, we inbounded the ball, and I advanced with it. Facing Chu Yuetao, I once again used my unbreakable "Lingbo Microstep." When I turned around, I realized the ball was gone—it had been stolen by Chu Yuetao! My signature move had been countered!
Chu Yuetao rushed toward the basket. I took a big step forward to block him. He stopped abruptly and made a fadeaway jumper that went in, making it 105-108 with five seconds left! We quickly inbounded the ball, and I passed it far to Ouyang. Ouyang took a three-pointer from the top of the arc but missed! The opponent's Giant Center jumped up to grab the rebound, but as he landed, he slipped and made a mistake—the ball fell to the ground. Tu Lei reacted quickly, picked up the ball, and passed it out. When I received it, I saw there was just over a second left on the timer before it would hit zero. I quickly stepped back to beyond the three-point line and shot toward the basket. With a beep signaling the end of regulation time, the ball arced beautifully through the air and swished through the net—108-108! I scored my twenty-seventh point of the game and sent it into overtime. Dazed, I collapsed onto the floor as my teammates rushed over to me. Our fans in the stands cheered and raised their hands high; once again, I played the role of savior—I was invincible!
After the break, Teacher Qiu gave me a big hug and then squatted down to adjust our strategy: "We played well in this last phase; both teams are really close in strength. Now that Haoshuai is out, our civilization is also down, so for overtime, I'll send out this lineup: Jie, Kobe, Tu Lei, Wei Weiwei, and Li Kanglin." Teacher Qiu hesitated to use my trio with Ouyang and Kobe again because he knew Coach Luo Qixing's strategy wouldn't be compromised by flexibility. After a brief rest, our overtime began. Exhausted, we bumped fists together: "Let's go!" Then we walked back onto the court. Five minutes—this would be our final test of endurance.
I saw their nearly two-meter tall Giant Center gulping down water before heading back onto the court. This guy was really dedicated—eighteen points, twelve rebounds, and eight blocks; who could match that? With Lu Yinghao out, our inside game had weakened significantly; however, he already had four fouls against him. All of our starting five had accumulated multiple fouls and were on the verge of being disqualified.
Li Kanglin jumped for possession against their Giant Center. After winning it, Chu Yuetao took control and started attacking. He moved outside the three-point line and passed right to Luo Yudong. As Wei Weiwei defended him closely, Luo Yudong dodged while off-balance and took a long-range shot that spun around inside the rim before falling in. After we inbounded again, I directly passed to Kobe. Kobe maneuvered near the paint while their Center and Power Forward came over to double-team him. Kobe suddenly spun hard into Giant Center's body but quickly pivoted away again. However, Giant Center shifted his weight too late; Kobe twisted his ankle during his turn and let out a cry of pain as he fell to the ground.
"Kobe!!" I rushed over first and squatted down beside him: "How are you? Where does it hurt?" Kobe tried moving his ankle but gritted his teeth as he replied: "My ankle hurts so much; I think I just twisted it."
What?! My heart sank suddenly, but I tried hard to mask my concern as I helped him up: "Okay then, rest for now; check if there's any bone damage; let's see how this last four minutes goes." Kobe sighed lightly without saying anything more; I knew he was feeling bad too. The referee called a foul on Giant Center; he protested: "Referee! How could that be my foul? It was his own mistake!" The referee signaled for him to be quiet but he persisted in arguing that he was wronged.
Coach Luo Qixing approached to calm him down but he wouldn’t listen either. The referee initially stepped aside to avoid him but he kept following closely until finally losing patience—he raised his hand and blew his whistle for an additional foul! That meant Giant Center was ejected from the game! He exploded in anger at the referee while Luo Qixing and other substitutes pulled him back. Coach Luo pleaded with the referee for leniency but shook his head in response.
Our fans began cheering despite us still trailing behind; both teams had suffered heavy losses in this championship match—a fierce battle where either side deserved victory equally well. Overtime continued as Ouyang and I fought side by side; since Ouyang had four fouls against him already, he couldn’t afford any more reckless moves during these final three minutes—our offense relied heavily on me while Ouyang focused on perimeter shooting.
Finally, with two minutes left in regulation time, Ouyang committed another foul against Chu Yuetao and fouled out with six fouls. As Ouyang left the court calmly turned back to pat my shoulder with a smile: "Captain, I've done my part; I believe you will bring us back that championship trophy." Hearing Ouyang’s words made me choke up uncontrollably—I could barely speak as I nodded vigorously while patting his shoulder.
With one of our four kings injured and two others disqualified along with A Fei gone too—only I remained among our five core players now! Looking back at City No. 2’s team revealed that Luo Yudong also had five fouls against him while both Chu Yuetao and I were at four fouls each—Brothers don’t worry; this time just watch your captain!
