Jin Jiangming's mind raced; he knew he couldn't just sit back and wait.
"Call the police, yes, call the police," he resolved, though he maintained a calm exterior.
"Cao Yuanfang, you're getting on in years; why bother with this? If you need compensation, we can negotiate, right?" Jin Jiangming forced a strained smile, aiming to placate Cao Yuanfang before discreetly alerting someone to call the authorities. Given Cao Yuanfang's history of grave offenses, it was likely that he would spend the rest of his life in prison.
"Then, Master Jin, how much are you willing to compensate?" Cao Yuanfang asked with a hint of interest, his gaze fixed on Jin Jiangming, his smile more menacing than friendly.
Jin Jiangming raised a finger.
"One hundred million." He was surprisingly generous, offering such a substantial amount right off the bat. The onlookers were shocked; they didn't know the backstory between the two men, but hearing Jin Jiangming offer one hundred million was astonishing.
"Is that all? Just one hundred million?" Cao Yuanfang sneered, clearly dissatisfied.
"What do you want then?" Jin Jiangming frowned, irritation creeping into his voice.
"I have two conditions. If you can meet them, we can wipe the slate clean after all these years. If not, that coffin will certainly come in handy," Cao Yuanfang said ominously.
"Go on," Jin Jiangming replied sternly.
"The first condition is one hundred million dollars. That’s reasonable enough," Cao Yuanfang stated.
"That’s reasonable." Jin Jiangming struggled internally but eventually nodded. If one hundred million could truly resolve their longstanding grudge, he would grit his teeth and agree. After all, he still had valuable items that could easily cover that amount.
"And the second condition?" However, Jin Jiangming knew Cao Yuanfang well; he was not someone easily satisfied, and he feared the second condition would be even more demanding.
"The second condition is that I need something of yours. Don't worry; it’s just one item," Cao Yuanfang said with a smile.
"What item?" Jin Jiangming's expression hardened instantly.
"A bracelet," Cao Yuanfang replied with a grin.
"I have plenty of gold bracelets, silver bracelets, and jade bracelets. Choose any you like," Jin Jiangming said earnestly.
"You know I'm not talking about those bracelets. I'm referring to a specific bracelet—one I won't name here in public. But you definitely know which one I mean; it’s the bracelet you found at Panjiayuan all those years ago. You didn’t spend much on it. Now you can give it to me in exchange for your life; I think that's quite worth it," Cao Yuanfang said meaningfully.
"I’ve found at least thousands of items at Panjiayuan; I don’t know what kind of bracelet you’re referring to," a flicker of seriousness crossed Jin Jiangming's eyes, but he feigned ignorance.
"Master Jin, your ability to play dumb is as impressive as ever. But today, I'm not here to negotiate business with you. You can pretend not to understand all you want, but if you end up in that coffin, it won’t be good for you," Cao Yuanfang said calmly, his sharp gaze seeming to pierce through to Jin Jiangming's very soul.
Jin Jiangming appeared as steady as a rock on the outside, but inside he was panicking. He knew exactly what bracelet Cao Yuanfang was talking about; what puzzled him was why after all these years, Cao Yuanfang still had his eyes set on the Heavenly Mechanism Twin Rings in his possession.
