The footsteps grew closer, and I tightened my grip on the crowbar, my heart pounding like a drum.
To be honest, this creepy place felt like a haunted house, and I regretted not bringing Zhong Dali along with me.
If I had known, I wouldn't have tried to be brave and come to this ghostly spot alone. Now look where it got me—playing a dangerous game of adrenaline.
I held my breath, straining to listen to the sounds around me, trying to determine who was approaching.
It couldn't really be a zombie, could it? I had barely escaped from a horde of them and certainly didn't want to experience the "fun" of being surrounded again.
The footsteps stopped at the doorway. I turned around sharply and saw Zhong Dali's honest face.
"Wei Na," he panted, "are you... okay? I... heard... something... over here..."
I let out a sigh of relief; it was just him, not an enemy.
This heavyset guy walked like thunder; he nearly scared me to death.
"I'm fine," I replied, "just... ran into... a little trouble..."
Calling it a little trouble was quite an understatement; I had nearly been devoured by a mutated zombie just moments ago.
I pointed to the corner where a trembling girl was huddled and said, "She... seems... to be... scared by the zombies..."
Zhong Dali glanced at the girl and then back at me, looking puzzled.
"Who... is she?" he asked.
"I... don't know," I admitted. "I just... encountered her..."
The girl looked somewhat familiar, as if I had seen her somewhere before, but I couldn't quite place her at that moment.
I was just about to ask the girl about her situation when suddenly, a low growl echoed from deep within the factory. The sound was deep and hoarse, reminiscent of an old cow struggling with constipation, causing me to tense up.
This is bad!
It was a mutated zombie!
My heart sank. This creature was no joke; it was far more dangerous than an ordinary zombie. I had nearly met my end at the hands of one last time.
I quickly grabbed Zhong Dali and the girl, pulling them behind a pile of rubble. The debris reeked, but at least it provided some cover.
"Shh!" I signaled for them to be quiet, then cautiously peeked out to see where the sound was coming from.
Before me stood a massive mutated zombie lumbering our way. It was over two meters tall, its body bulging with muscles like a bodybuilder, though somewhat decayed.
Its skin was a grimy gray-black, covered in rotting wounds that emitted a nauseating stench—far worse than stinky tofu.
Its eyes were blood-red, filled with a ravenous hunger, as if it wanted to tear us apart. Just looking at it made me feel sick.
I inhaled sharply; this mutated zombie was stronger than any I had encountered before!
The last time I faced a zombie of this caliber, I had almost become its meal.
I quickly withdrew my head and said to Zhong Dali and the girl, "We... need... to find a way... to escape..."
"Escape?" Zhong Dali looked bewildered. "Where... do we... escape to?"
This fat guy really fell apart at a critical moment.
I glanced around the environment. The factory was surrounded by walls on all sides, with only one exit—and that had already been blocked by the mutated zombie. We were trapped!
I felt like a mouse trapped in a snare, with no way to escape. This time, I was really done for.
Just then, I suddenly sensed a powerful energy surging from within me. What… is this?
Looking down, I noticed the black bracelet on my wrist emitting a faint glow. Could it be… “Soul Devouring Immunity Evolution”?
A spark of realization hit me, and I quickly focused my mind, feeling the flow of this energy. As it continued to pour in, I felt my body brimming with strength, as if I possessed boundless energy. I… had become stronger!
Joy surged within me; this “Soul Devouring Immunity Evolution” was indeed miraculous!
Taking a deep breath, I poked my head out again to see the approaching mutated zombie. This time, I… was no longer… afraid!
I tightened my grip on the crowbar, ready to face this mutated zombie in a fight to the death!
The mutated zombie roared as it lunged at me with a speed akin to that of a cheetah. I nimbly dodged aside and swung the crowbar down hard onto its body.
With a dull thud, the mutated zombie staggered back from my blow but did not fall. This creature had tough skin!
The mutated zombie lunged at me again, its maw wide open, revealing sharp teeth inside. I quickly stepped back to evade its attack.
At that moment, I suddenly felt an even stronger energy surging within me. My speed instantly increased, and my body felt incredibly light, as if I were flying. I… could actually… teleport!
Ecstasy filled my heart; this… was simply… amazing! With this skill, wasn’t I invincible?
Using my teleportation ability, I effortlessly dodged the mutated zombie's attacks while looking for an opportunity to counterattack. It felt like playing a game with cheats enabled.
Though the mutated zombie’s attacks were fierce, it couldn’t match my speed and failed to land a hit on me. Frustrated, it swiped its claws wildly but only grasped at air.
Seizing an opportunity, I swung the crowbar again and brought it crashing down onto the mutated zombie's head.
A crisp sound echoed as I smashed the mutated zombie's head, creating a large hole from which green liquid gushed forth. The smell was intoxicating, even more so than durian.
The mutated zombie collapsed to the ground, twitching a few times before falling still. I... had won!
I... had actually defeated... a mutated zombie!
A wave of ecstasy surged through me. This "Soul-Eating Immunity Evolution" was indeed powerful! I felt invincible, as if I had unlocked some hidden power!
Wait, something felt off. Suddenly, a wave of dizziness washed over me, and my body swayed unsteadily, as if I might collapse at any moment. This was bad!
It was... a side effect!
While this "Soul-Eating Immunity Evolution" was strong, its side effects were significant. Each time I used it, I would be left dizzy and weak.
I quickly leaned against the nearby wall, struggling to stay conscious. I needed to get out of here... fast.
Taking a deep breath, I fought through the discomfort and headed toward the factory's entrance. Just then, I sensed a powerful presence behind me—stronger than the mutated zombie I had just faced!
I turned around sharply and saw a mysterious girl standing behind me. Her gaze was cold and piercing, filled with an aura of lethal intent.
What... was going on?
