The next day, Li Wan went to work as usual. During lunch, she took a break and went to the study room, where she saw Xu Qiang and her stepmother sitting in the conference room.
Her stepmother greeted Xu Qiang warmly, "Xiao Qiang, it's been a long time!"
Xu Qiang nodded expressionlessly, "Hello, Auntie."
Her stepmother smiled and said, "I heard you’re back at work. That’s wonderful!"
Xu Qiang remained silent.
She continued, "Are you still single?"
Xu Qiang replied, "Yes."
Her stepmother smiled again, "That's perfect! I have a niece who is very beautiful and graduated from a prestigious university. Why don't you two meet?"
Xu Qiang frowned and said, "Auntie, I’m not planning to date anyone right now."
Her stepmother chuckled, "Don’t be so quick to refuse. You can at least get to know each other!"
Xu Qiang seemed a bit impatient. "I really have no interest."
Just as her stepmother was about to say something else, Li Wan pushed the door open and walked in.
Seeing Xu Qiang and her stepmother together, she pretended not to recognize Xu Qiang and walked straight to her stepmother. "Auntie, did you call for me?"
Her stepmother immediately smiled and said, "Xiao Lin, come here!"
Li Wan walked over and sat beside her. "Auntie, what do you need me for?"
Her stepmother replied with a grin, "I want to introduce you to a boyfriend."
Li Wan was taken aback. "Huh?"
Her stepmother pointed at Xu Qiang. "This is Xu Qiang, President Xu. He’s young and accomplished, and he’s quite handsome. What do you think?"
Li Wan looked at Xu Qiang, who was also looking at her. They held each other's gaze for a moment before Li Wan awkwardly looked away. "Auntie, I..."
"Xiao Lin, don’t be shy! President Xu is a good man; you definitely shouldn’t miss this chance!"
Li Wan felt a bit helpless; she hadn’t expected her stepmother to introduce her to Xu Qiang.
She instinctively glanced at Xu Qiang, who was also looking at her. Her face flushed, and she lowered her head. Xu Qiang watched her shy demeanor, a smile unconsciously spreading across his lips. Their stepmother observed their interaction, a glint of cunning flashing in her eyes.
After finishing their meal, Li Wan followed Xu Qiang out of the company. Unable to hold back, she asked, "Where did you go last night?"
Xu Qiang turned his head to look at her. "Did you miss me?"
Li Wan was taken aback, her face instantly turning red. "I... I didn't!"
Xu Qiang chuckled. "Then why are you asking?"
Li Wan looked down. "I was just worried about you."
Xu Qiang studied her. "Worried about what?"
Li Wan whispered, "Worried that you got caught by the police again."
Xu Qiang was momentarily stunned before bursting into laughter. He reached out and ruffled her hair. "Silly, didn't I say I wouldn't do that kind of thing anymore?"
Li Wan lifted her head to look at him. "Really?"
Xu Qiang nodded. "Of course it's true."
Li Wan gazed at him and suddenly asked, "Xu Qiang, are you feeling down?"
Xu Qiang paused in surprise. "Why do you ask that?"
Li Wan replied earnestly, "I can feel it; you're not in a good mood."
Xu Qiang looked at her and fell silent for a moment. "Li Wan, what would you think if I told you I'm not my parents' biological child?"
Li Wan was taken aback. "What? You're not your parents' biological child?"
Xu Qiang nodded. "Yeah."
Li Wan stared at him, feeling a shock in her heart. She never expected that Xu Qiang wasn't his parents' biological child.
She whispered, "How did you know?"
Xu Qiang took a deep breath and replied, "I overheard it."
Li Wan looked at him, "Are you... sure?"
Xu Qiang nodded, "I'm sure."
Li Wan didn't know what to say.
Xu Qiang gazed at her, "Li Wan, you don't dislike me, do you?"
Li Wan quickly shook her head, "Of course not."
Xu Qiang looked at her, "Really?"
Li Wan nodded, "Mm."
Xu Qiang felt a wave of emotion as he looked at her.
Unable to resist, he reached out and hugged her tightly. "Li Wan, thank you."
Li Wan gently patted his back, "Xu Qiang, no matter what difficulties you face, don't forget that you still have me."
Xu Qiang nodded, "Mm."
As Li Wan held him, she silently vowed to make him happy.
They embraced for a long time downstairs before reluctantly letting go.
Li Wan looked at Xu Qiang, "You should head back now. I'll treat you to dinner tonight."
Xu Qiang nodded, "Okay."
Li Wan smiled, "Bye-bye."
Xu Qiang watched her and replied, "Bye-bye."
Li Wan turned and walked into the company building.
Xu Qiang watched her enter the elevator before leaving.
That evening after work, Li Wan and Xu Qiang agreed on a dinner location and then went their separate ways home.
