As soon as Li Wan arrived home, she received a call from Cheng Wu.
“Li Wan, are you free tonight?” Cheng Wu asked on the other end of the line.
Li Wan hesitated for a moment before replying, “Yes, what’s up?”
Cheng Wu spoke softly, “I’m feeling down. Come drink with me.”
After a brief pause, Li Wan agreed, “Alright, where are you?”
He provided her with the address, and she hung up, heading straight to the location.
When she arrived at the bar Cheng Wu mentioned, he was already waiting for her in a booth.
She walked over and sat beside him. “Why are you drinking alone?” she asked.
Cheng Wu sighed, “I’m just not in a good mood.”
Li Wan looked at him curiously. “What happened?”
He took a sip of his drink. “My dad wants me to take over the company.”
Li Wan was taken aback. “Isn’t that a good thing?”
Cheng Wu frowned. “But I don’t like doing business at all.”
Li Wan studied him closely. “Then what do you like?”
He paused for a moment before responding, “I like racing.”
Li Wan raised an eyebrow. “Then just tell your dad that.”
Cheng Wu sighed again. “I did, but he won’t agree.”
Li Wan frowned slightly. “Then there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Cheng Wu turned to look at her earnestly. “Li Wan, will you come racing with me?”
Li Wan was taken aback. “Me?”
He nodded. “Yeah.”
She hesitated for a moment, and Cheng Wu took her hand gently. “Li Wan, I’m begging you.”
Li Wan looked at him with hopeful eyes and softened her heart. "Alright then."
Cheng Wu smiled. "Thank you."
Li Wan chuckled. "No need to mention it."
The two clinked their glasses and drank in one go.
In the afternoon, during a company meeting, the department manager called me out, saying that the president wanted to see me. Confused, I walked into the conference room, only to find all the senior executives and board members present. Most importantly, my dad and my stepmother were there, along with Xu Qiang and a middle-aged man I had never seen before, whom I guessed was Xu Qiang's father.
I was taken aback.
I had always maintained a normal colleague relationship with Xu Qiang and hadn’t done anything inappropriate!
The HR manager sat beside me and began reporting, "This is our HR manager, responsible for managing employee relations."
"We received news that your daughter, Miss Li Wan, and Mr. Xu might be involved in an office romance..."
Upon hearing this, my dad looked at me in shock. "Li Wan, is this true?"
I bit my lip and remained silent.
The HR manager handed a photo to the executives. I glanced at it; it showed me embracing Xu Qiang. It was from the last time he got drunk, and I had taken him home. He had hugged me downstairs at my place.
His father saw the photo and immediately became furious, slamming his hand on the table. "Xu Qiang, what are you doing?"
Xu Qiang coldly stared at Xu Changping. "What business is it of yours?"
Xu Changping's face turned pale with anger. "I am your father!"
Xu Qiang scoffed. "Do you deserve that title?"
Zheng Ruyu tugged at Xu Changping's sleeve. "Changping, don’t get angry; Xiao Qiang didn’t mean it."
"Besides, Li Wan and Xiao Qiang are both adults; they have their own thoughts and judgments."
"They can resolve their issues themselves; we shouldn't interfere."
The Human Resources Manager said directly, "But Miss Lin and Mr. Xu are both key members of the company. If they really get together, it might affect their work."
"So I believe that in order for Miss Lin to perform better, Mr. Xu should leave the company."
Xu Qiang looked coldly at the Human Resources Manager and asked, "What do you mean?"
The manager replied fearlessly, "I mean that Mr. Xu should resign."
Xu Qiang laughed in anger, "You want me to resign?"
The manager remained silent, but his attitude was clear.
Xu Qiang nodded, "Fine, very well."
He turned to his father and said, "This is what you wanted, right?"
My father's face darkened, "I don't know what you're talking about."
Xu Qiang took a deep breath, "You don't have to play dumb. I know you've always looked down on me and think I'm not worthy of being your son."
"I also know you've wanted me to leave the company all along, and now I'm doing just that."
Xu Changping trembled with anger, "Unfilial son! You ungrateful child!"
Zheng Ruyu quickly comforted him, "Changping, don't get too worked up; take care of your health."
I watched the chaotic scene before me, feeling a splitting headache.
I never expected things would turn out this way.
Seeing Xu Qiang and his father about to fight, I suddenly had an idea; I closed my eyes and pretended to faint.
