Xu Qiang rushed over and picked me up. "Li Wan, what's wrong?"
My parents were startled and hurried over. "Li Wan! Li Wan!"
Xu Qiang carried me towards the company’s medical room, with my parents following closely behind.
Once in the medical room, the doctor examined me and said I had just fainted due to low blood sugar and that there was nothing serious.
My parents sighed in relief. My dad looked at Xu Qiang and said, "Thank you for taking care of Li Wan."
Xu Qiang replied calmly, "She's my girlfriend; it's only natural for me to take care of her."
My dad's expression changed slightly, as if he wanted to say something but ultimately just sighed.
He took me home.
Once we were back, my mom made some bird's nest porridge for me. I took a few bites before retreating to my room.
My dad came in and closed the door behind him.
"Li Wan, what’s going on between you and Xu Qiang?"
I looked at him and replied, "It's exactly what you saw."
He frowned slightly. "Are you really dating Xu Qiang?"
I hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Yeah."
My dad sighed again. "Li Wan, I'm not an old-fashioned person. If you want to date, I won't oppose it."
"But you shouldn't be dating him at the office; it could affect your work."
I lowered my gaze. "I know."
He looked at me seriously. "So what do you plan to do?"
I shook my head. "I don't know either."
He patted my shoulder gently. "Think about it carefully."
With that, he turned and left the room.
That evening, I confessed my feelings for Xu Qiang and our relationship to my parents. After hearing this, they fell silent.
After a long while, my mother held my hand and said, “Li Wan, your father and I are not trying to interfere with your love life. We just hope you can be happy and not make any wrong decisions out of a moment of impulse.”
I nodded, “I understand.”
My mother smiled slightly, “That’s good to hear.”
My father looked at me and said, “Since you’re already with Xu Qiang, just make sure to get along well.”
“But remember, don’t let your relationship interfere with your work, okay?”
I nodded again, “I got it.”
After my parents left, I lay on my bed, lost in thought.
What happened today was so sudden; I had no mental preparation at all. I wondered if Xu Qiang would be affected by this situation.
I took out my phone, wanting to call Xu Qiang, but hesitated, fearing I might disturb him at work. After thinking for a moment, I set my phone down.
Xu Qiang stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the night view outside, his eyes deep and contemplative.
The events of today made him realize his position in this family. Although he was the heir of Xu Group, he actually held no real power. In fact, he didn’t even consider himself a true member of the Xu family.
He thought of his mother. She had been a very gentle and kind woman who later fell ill and passed away. His relationship with his stepmother was not good; she didn’t like him at all, and their relationship was quite strained.
He remembered his childhood when every time he felt wronged or sad, it was his mother who comforted and protected him. She once told him, “Xiao Qiang, no matter what difficulties you face, don’t be afraid. Mom will always protect you and will never let you suffer.”
But now, he had lost his mother, and his father didn’t like him. He truly didn’t know who he could rely on anymore. He took out his phone and scrolled through pictures of his mother. In the photo, she was looking at him gently, a warm smile on her face. Xu Qiang felt a lump in his throat as he fought back tears. He murmured to the photo, “Mom, what should I do?”

Xu Qiang decided he would no longer go to the company. He resolved to go home tomorrow night to have a serious discussion with his parents and younger brother, Xu Yuan, about this issue. He thought of his mother and her inheritance; he should use that money to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams instead of wasting time in the workplace.
He sent a message to Li Wan: “Li Wan, I’m not going to the company anymore. You focus on your career; I’m sure you’ll thrive.”
