The next day, Xu Qiang did not show up at the company. I suspected that he might really not come back. A sense of loss crept into my heart. Although I knew this was just an isolated incident, I couldn't help but feel a bit sad. After all, he was the first man who made my heart flutter.
During the lunch break, I went out to buy coffee. Just as I stepped out of the company gate, I saw a boy in a high school uniform walking towards me. He looked to be around seventeen or eighteen, quite handsome, but his eyes had a rebellious glint.
He walked straight up to me and grinned, "Sister-in-law, hello."
I glanced at him coolly and asked, "Who are you?"
He flashed a big smile, "I'm Xu Yuan, Xu Qiang's younger brother."
I raised an eyebrow, "Oh, so you're Xu Qiang's brother."
Xu Yuan looked a bit surprised, "Aren't you curious?"
I chuckled, "Why should I be curious?"
Xu Yuan replied, "I know about you and my brother."
I looked at him with a half-smile, "What do you know?"
He grinned mischievously, "My brother really likes you; he even changed his phone wallpaper to your picture."
I narrowed my eyes slightly, "Did you send our photo to your parents?"
Xu Yuan froze for a moment and then looked flustered. "Sister-in-law, don't misunderstand."
"I didn't mean to send our photo to my parents; I just wanted them to accept you."
"You are my sister-in-law, so of course I hope you can be with my brother."
I snorted dismissively, "Stop pretending."
"I think you're just jealous of your brother and intentionally sent the photo to Xu Qiang's parents," I said.
Xu Yuan's expression changed. "What... what nonsense are you talking about?"
I scoffed, "Nonsense? Then why did you take our photo without permission?"
"Does your brother know?"
"Do your parents know you like me?"
Xu Yuan was left speechless by my retort, staring at me without a word.
I snorted coldly and turned to leave.
Xu Yuan hurried after me, "Sister-in-law, please don't be angry. I was wrong, okay?"
"I promise I won't do it again."
I paused and looked at him, "Do you really understand your mistake?"
Xu Yuan nodded eagerly, "Yes, I truly understand."
I smirked slightly, "Since you know your mistake, I'll forgive you."
"But you have to promise me one thing."
Xu Yuan quickly asked, "What is it?"
I leaned closer to his ear and whispered a few words.
After hearing this, Xu Yuan's eyes widened in shock, "What did you say?"
I raised an eyebrow, "What? You don't want to?"
Xu Yuan gritted his teeth, "It's not that I don't want to, it's just..."
I interrupted him, "It's just that your parents wouldn't agree, right?"
Xu Yuan lowered his head and fell silent.
I chuckled softly, "I knew it. Your parents look down on me."
"They think I'm just a working girl and not worthy of being with their son."
"So you secretly sent them the photo because you wanted to break us apart, didn't you?"
Xu Yuan hurriedly defended himself, "No, that's not what I meant."
"I just wanted my parents to accept you."
I scoffed, "Do you think I would believe that?"
"You’re just afraid that once your brother is with me, you won't have a chance anymore."
"You’re worried that he will be favored more than you and that you'll have no place in your family."
Xu Yuan's face turned pale, "I... I didn't..."
I looked at him disdainfully, "Didn't you?"
"Then why don't you dare to call your parents and have them talk to me face to face?"
Xu Yuan was left speechless by my pressure.
I snorted coldly and turned to leave.
Xu Yuan hurriedly grabbed my arm. "Sister-in-law, I'm begging you, don't push me."
"My parents really won't agree to you being with my brother."
I looked at him. "Then you need to work hard to make your parents accept me."
"If you can't even manage that, then don't blame me for being with your brother."
Xu Yuan gritted his teeth. "Fine, I promise you."
I smiled with satisfaction. "That's more like it."
"Don't worry, as long as you behave, your brother will treat you well."
"He even told me yesterday that he wants to give me his bank card."
"He said he has a lot of money, enough to support me for a lifetime."
Hearing this, Xu Yuan's expression turned very grim.
I feigned surprise and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Aren't you happy?"
Xu Yuan forced a smile. "Happy? Of course I'm happy."
I smiled sweetly. "That's good."
"Hurry back and tell your parents; I'll be waiting for your good news."
Xu Yuan nodded and turned to leave.
I watched his retreating figure, a mocking smile curling at the corners of my mouth.
You think you can compete with me? You're still too inexperienced.
This time, I'll let you experience what it's like to be ignored by your family.
