Xu Yuan returned home and relayed to Xu Qiang's parents what he had said to him outside the company. After hearing this, both of them were extremely angry. Xu Qiang's father even slapped Xu Yuan across the face, exclaiming, "Are you out of your mind? You actually want to give Xiao Qiang's money to an outsider?"
Xu Yuan covered his face, feeling wronged. "Dad, I'm doing this for you and Mom's sake. Li Wan is someone my brother likes. If you don't accept her, he will definitely resent you."
Xu Qiang's mother frowned as well. "Xiao Yuan, how can you say that? Your father and I are only looking out for your best interests. Your brother can handle his own affairs; you don't need to worry about it."
Xu Yuan replied solemnly, "But I've already promised Li Wan."
Xu Qiang's father scoffed, "What did you promise her?"
"I promised her that I would make you accept her," Xu Yuan said.
Xu Qiang's mother sighed, "You child, this is just nonsense. Your father and I will never accept her."
Xu Yuan bit his lip. "Then what am I supposed to do?"
Xu Qiang's father coldly responded, "You brought this trouble upon yourself; you can deal with it yourself. If you dare give your brother's money to her, I'll break your legs."
Xu Yuan was frightened into silence and quietly returned to his room. Lying on his bed, he felt a mix of emotions swirling inside him. He hadn't expected that trying to help his brother would lead to such a situation. He felt some resentment towards Xu Qiang; if it weren't for his brother liking that woman, he wouldn't have ended up in this predicament.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. He grabbed a pillow and covered his head, forcing himself not to think about these annoying matters.
After afternoon tea ended, I returned to my workstation when my phone suddenly vibrated.
I picked up my phone and saw a message from Xu Yuan.
"Sorry, Sister-in-law, I broke my promise."
"My parents don’t agree with me giving your brother’s money to you."
"But don’t worry, I will find a way to convince them."
Looking at the message, a faint smile crept onto my lips.
Although I had anticipated this outcome, I was still pleased with Xu Yuan's response.
I replied, "It's okay, I don't blame you."
"Don't rush it, take your time."
"I believe you can convince your parents."
Xu Yuan quickly responded, "Okay, thank you, Sister-in-law."
I chuckled softly, put my phone away, and continued working.
Later that evening, after returning home and finishing my shower, I sat on the bed reading.
Suddenly, my phone rang.
I picked it up and saw it was a call from Xu Qiang.
After a moment of hesitation, I decided to answer.
On the other end of the line, Xu Qiang's deep voice came through. "Li Wan, are you asleep?"
I replied softly, "Not yet."
Xu Qiang asked, "What are you doing?"
I smiled and said, "Just reading."
There was a brief silence before Xu Qiang slowly said, "Li Wan, I miss you."
I was taken aback for a moment as a wave of sweetness washed over me.
I gently replied, "I miss you too."
Xu Qiang chuckled lightly, "Then let's meet up."
I hesitated for a moment, "Now?"
"Yes, now," he replied.
After thinking it over, I agreed, "Alright, where shall we meet?"
"How about the park near your home?" he suggested.
I nodded, "Okay, I'll head over now."
After hanging up the phone, I changed into a different outfit and left for the park.
It was already late at night, and there weren't many people in the park.
I walked to a pavilion in the center of the park and sat down, waiting for Xu Qiang's arrival.
After a while, Xu Qiang showed up.
He was wearing a black trench coat and sunglasses, looking quite cool.
He approached me and took off his sunglasses, revealing a pair of deep-set eyes.
We locked eyes for a moment, and I found myself at a loss for words.
Finally, I broke the silence, "Why did you come so late?"
Xu Qiang smiled slightly, "Because I miss you."
"So I specifically waited until this time to call you."
A sweet feeling spread through my heart, but I retorted playfully, "You're such a smooth talker."
Xu Qiang looked at me with intense eyes, "I'm being serious."
"I think about you every moment."
My cheeks flushed as I avoided his gaze, "Please don't look at me like that."
Xu Qiang laughed and wrapped his arm around my shoulders, "Alright, I won't look at you anymore."
"Let's go."
I nodded and followed him out of the park.
We walked aimlessly down the street, our silence speaking volumes as our hearts drew closer together. After a while, Xu Qiang suddenly stopped. He looked at me seriously and said, "Li Wan, let's get married."
