"Bang!"
Lin Xiaofan's fist slammed hard against the mirror in the mall restroom. Cracks radiated from the center, distorting his reflection into fragmented pieces. The sharp pain in his knuckles brought him back to reality, albeit momentarily.
"What the hell! Acting all high and mighty!" he growled at the shattered image of himself, his voice echoing in the empty restroom.
Cold water splashed onto the reddened skin of his hand, the sting making him gasp. Lin Xiaofan lifted his head, staring at the man in the mirror whose bloodshot eyes looked terrifyingly unfamiliar. Su Yuqing's piercing gaze seemed to linger on him, igniting a burning shame that flushed his ears.
"Sir, are you alright?" A cleaning lady peeked in, her eyes darting between the broken mirror and Lin Xiaofan's bleeding hand.
"I'm fine." He shook his hand dismissively and pulled out a few bills from his wallet, shoving them towards her. "Compensation."
Exiting the restroom, Lin Xiaofan headed straight away from the mall. His steps quickened until he was nearly jogging, as if that would help him escape those jarring words.
"It’s like conducting some sort of investment assessment..."
Damn it! What did that woman know? Did she understand what five thousand meant to him? Did she know he had just lost his job and couldn't even pay rent?
His phone vibrated in his pocket. Lin Xiaofan pulled it out and stopped in his tracks at the screen's notification:

Lin Xiaofan's breath became heavy. He abruptly turned around and collided with a young mother pushing a stroller.
"Watch where you're going!" she snapped, glaring at him.
Lin Xiaofan didn’t apologize; instead, he scanned through the crowded space until he spotted a familiar figure in blue. Su Yuqing was explaining something to an elderly couple, her slightly bent posture radiating professional elegance.
"Damn it!" Lin Xiaofan muttered under his breath but still took a step forward.
As he stormed up to the donation booth, the volunteers visibly tensed. The girl with a ponytail instinctively took a half-step back.
"Mr. Lin?" Su Yuqing straightened up, her brow furrowing slightly. "Is there something else?"
Lin Xiaofan didn’t respond. He pulled out his phone, navigating to the scanning interface, his fingers trembling slightly from exertion.
"I want to donate," he said, his voice raspier than he had anticipated. "Five thousand."
The surroundings fell silent instantly. Several volunteers exchanged glances, and even passersby paused to look over.
"Are you... sure?" The girl with the ponytail stammered.
"Scan the code!" Lin Xiaofan almost shouted.
Su Yuqing quietly watched him, her expression complex. She gently pushed aside the girl with the ponytail and took the scanner herself.
"Beep—"
As the successful payment notification sounded, Lin Xiaofan's phone vibrated violently. He looked down to see the bank app notifications refreshing like a waterfall:

The number made Lin Xiaofan feel dizzy. He instinctively reached out to steady himself against the donation table, his fingertips brushing against a stack of brochures.
"Mr. Lin?" Su Yuqing's voice seemed to come from a distance, "Are you okay?"
Lin Xiaofan raised his head and found everyone looking at him with concern. His back was already soaked with sweat, and his throat felt as dry as a desert.
"Water..." he managed to squeeze out the word.
