I took a sharp breath; this girl… who is she?
I felt like I must have saved the galaxy in my past life to have such an incredible teammate in this one.
The sound of approaching footsteps grew louder, like an army marching, sending a tingling sensation through my feet.
My heart raced as if it were about to leap out of my chest; it was more thrilling than dancing at a club. At least when dancing, there’s music, but now all I could hear was the unsettling sound of footsteps.
“Not good! We’re… surrounded!” I shouted, thinking that this was it. Just when I thought I had escaped the wolf's den, I had stumbled into the tiger's lair. My luck really couldn’t get any worse.
“Who cares! Strength brings miracles!” Zhong Dali roared, swinging his massive iron hammer. The hammer whistled through the air like a whirlwind, exuding an intimidating presence. Anyone who didn’t know better might think he was about to perform a circus act.
The girl also pulled out her High-Tech Weapons, her gaze icy and unyielding, like a block of ice. I wondered if she could freeze her enemies just with her stare.
I couldn’t back down either! After all, I was the protagonist; I couldn’t afford to falter at such a critical moment.
Taking a deep breath, I retrieved my Exclusive Weapon—a rusty steel pipe. This pipe… I had found it among a pile of rubble, like a scavenger picking up trash.
When I first picked it up, it lay in a heap of garbage, mingling with broken scraps and old metal—truly a brother in misfortune.
Now, it had become my lifeline. Just thinking about it gave me a little thrill.
Though it looked old and rusty, like an antique, at least it was a weapon. It could hit something when needed; that was better than going in empty-handed.
"Charge!" I shouted, leading the way out as if I were on a high from some adrenaline rush. Anyone who didn't know better might think there were millions in prizes waiting for me.
In the ruins, remnants of walls and debris were scattered everywhere, as if bombarded. The obstacles created a maze-like environment; I estimated that even Batman would get lost here.
I took advantage of the terrain, setting up various traps and mechanisms, much like playing a real-life version of CS. I was just waiting for those guys to walk right into my web and experience my prowess firsthand.
Back when I played real-life CS, I was known for my accuracy, earning the nickname "Human Outline Master." This time, I wanted them to understand what it truly meant to be a "Trap Master."
Zhong Dali served as bait, drawing enemy fire. Tough and resilient, he was like a tank; bullets hitting him felt like mere tickles. I couldn't help but wonder if he had trained in some sort of Golden Bell Shield or Iron Cloth Shirt technique.
The girl was responsible for disrupting enemy communications. Her high-tech weapons could emit special electromagnetic waves that interfered with their electronic devices, rendering their communication systems useless—like cutting off their internet. They were probably panicking right about now.
As expected, the Hostile Survivor Squad fell for it. Lured by Zhong Dali, they entered my trap zone like moths to a flame. Clearly, their intelligence wasn’t very high.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" A series of explosions erupted as my traps were triggered, resembling firecrackers going off. Flames shot into the sky, and thick smoke billowed; anyone unaware might think I was celebrating a festival.
The Hostile Survivor Squad was thrown into chaos, falling like dumplings into boiling water amidst their cries that sounded like pigs being slaughtered. It tugged at my heartstrings—though only slightly.
Seizing the moment, I charged out with Zhong Dali and the girl, like tigers descending from a mountain, unleashing a flurry of punches on the remaining enemies. It was like playing Whac-A-Mole; one by one, we knocked them down until they saw stars.
Zhong Dali swung his massive hammer with ferocity, creating a whirlwind of destruction that made enemies wail like children. Anyone watching might think he was pounding rice cakes instead.
The girl's high-tech weapons also played a crucial role; her precise shooting left the enemies defenseless as if she had activated some cheat code. I suspected she might have secretly modified the game data.
I… was not willing to back down either. My rusty steel pipe, although not as powerful as their weapons, was still sufficient for the task at hand. I aimed for the enemies' vital points, striking with precision as if I were a skilled acupuncturist. I couldn't help but wonder if I had been an old Chinese medicine practitioner in my past life.
Before long, the Hostile Survivor Squad was wiped out by us, like autumn leaves swept away by the wind—clean and efficient. I found myself a bit impressed with my own abilities; I hadn’t expected I had such skills.
We… won!
I let out a long sigh of relief, thinking that I had finally escaped a calamity. It felt even better than winning the lottery; after all, winning the lottery comes with taxes, but this was pure profit.
However, before I could fully enjoy my victory, suddenly, I heard a chilling voice. This voice… came from deep within the ruins… it sounded like a ghostly wail, sending shivers down my spine and making the hairs on my body stand on end.
"You think… this is… the end?"
