"Haha! Good! Keep an eye on that stalker, don't let that kid escape. You all come with me to retrieve the knife." Di Xuejiang laughed heartily, surprised that the guy really hadn’t left; wasn’t he just waiting for him to go and get back that knife?
"Young Master, should we bring more people?" the servant behind him reminded. In his view, anyone bold enough to flaunt a knife in public was either a fool or had the strength to protect their possessions.
"Didn't you all find out about that person's Realm? With his Realm, it's a piece of cake for me to handle him." Di Xuejiang scoffed. He had already inquired about the person who bought the Cangyue Blade; since they hadn't reached the Jade Body Realm, it would be easy for him to take care of it himself. In fact, he didn’t even need to lift a finger; he had several capable subordinates under him who had already reached the Concentration stage. These were all fierce individuals his elder brother had scouted for him.
Although Snow City had four gates, only the north and south gates were usually open. The Xue He River wound its way around Snow City, forming a peninsula. Apart from leaving directly from the south, going out through the north gate meant traveling five Bird Journeys to reach the Snow River Bridge—the only bridge over Xue He. Because of this, the east and west gates were practically useless. To head towards Shu Cang Imperial Capital, one had to cross Xue He, which was only about two hundred zhang wide at this point. No one wanted to wade through the icy waters of Xue He when there was a bridge available.
Mo Wen had purchased some items in the city and was now leisurely making his way toward the north gate. As he walked, he contemplated his next steps. Traveling from Snow City to Shu Cang Imperial Capital would take him half a year on foot. Riding a beast would be faster, but he could only stick to official roads. If he chose not to use the official roads, he could cut straight through, which would take about the same amount of time. What troubled him now was whether to take the official roads or not; taking them would allow him to gather some information, while avoiding them meant he would have to wait until he reached the imperial capital to inquire further. He wasn't worried at all about Di Xuejiang.
"Boss, we’ve got a tail," Xiao Hei said from Mo Wen's back. He could clearly see what was happening behind them and noticed someone following closely.
"It’s fine; just make sure he doesn’t lose us." Based on what he had learned, it would actually be strange if no one was following him this time. If Di Xuejiang didn’t show up, that would be one thing; if he did come, Mo Wen intended for him not to return. He had studied the map at the inn and even figured out where Di Xuejiang would likely wait for him.
Exiting through the north gate, Mo Wen admired the scenery as he headed toward Snow River Bridge.
"Check what's going on over there; it’s been so long without anyone showing up. Did they lose track?" Di Xuejiang said impatiently. He had already been waiting here for quite some time; could it be that kid hadn’t left the city?
"Young Master, look! Here they come!" As dusk approached, there were hardly any people left on the already sparse official road leading to Shu Cang. The area was vast with few inhabitants and commerce wasn’t thriving; even the road leading to the imperial capital saw little traffic. Most people preferred to leave early in the morning rather than at noon like Mo Wen.
"Haha! This kid knows how to behave." Standing atop a hill and watching the figure on the road below—especially with that black curved knife on his back—there was no doubt that this was the person he was looking for. It was truly a stroke of luck; if they acted during daylight hours, it might attract unwanted attention and jeopardize his future inheritance of family business. Little did Di Xuejiang know that in Old Ancestor's eyes, he had already been crossed off the list of potential heirs and thoughts of purging him had crossed their mind.
"Let’s go! Follow me to retrieve the knife!" Di Xuejiang mounted his beast and charged down toward the official road below.
