"What's wrong, Boss?" As Mo Wen suddenly picked him up, Xiao Hei instinctively tensed up, scanning the surroundings for any danger. There seemed to be none, and looking at Boss Mo, who appeared anxious yet wore a smile, he felt somewhat reassured.
"I'm taking you to witness the Heavenly Tribulation." Last time when he faced the tribulation, Xiao Hei was left in the small cabin, so this time he had to bring him along.
"Heavenly Tribulation? Where did this Heavenly Tribulation come from? Boss! Are you about to face it?" Hearing Mo Wen mention Heavenly Tribulation, Xiao Hei was momentarily taken aback. Last time, Boss Mo had left him alone in the cabin, so he missed witnessing the grandeur of his battle against the Heavenly Tribulation.
"This time, you'll see how I fight against the Heavenly Tribulation!" Despite his bravado, he remembered how badly he had fared during his last tribulation. He doubted this time would be any easier, but he had confidence in his foundation; the stronger it was, the smoother the tribulation would be. The only issue was that there was no one to act as his Guardian.
"Boss, isn't it customary to have someone as a Guardian during a tribulation?" Remembering his master's words made Xiao Hei anxious. He too would face a tribulation someday, though that was still far off. His master had emphasized the importance of having a Guardian, and right now, Boss Mo didn’t seem to have anyone by his side.
"I need to get used to days without support." This was a thought that had crossed Mo Wen's mind before. Old Lu had also mentioned that it was best to have someone as a Guardian during a tribulation to prevent any ill-intentioned individuals from interfering. Now, finding someone would surely be too late; besides, there was no one here he could trust other than Xiao Hei. Furthermore, he couldn't rely on others all the time; he had to walk his own path.
Across from the inn, in a tavern, Wang Chi and his companion were still drinking. They had been watching for half a month but hadn’t seen He Er Gou. Long Xiao Wu, feeling somewhat dejected, stood up to look at the inn across the street.
"Boss Wang! That guy is trying to escape!" Seeing Mo Wen exit the inn made Long Xiao Wu excitedly shout at Wang Chi. Their target seemed hurried and anxious to leave.
"What are you panicking about? Do you think we've been discovered?" Hearing Long Xiao Wu, Wang Chi also stood up. Looking at Mo Wen's rushed demeanor, it didn’t seem like he had noticed them. The two had changed their disguises several times over the past few days just to avoid being spotted. "Let’s go! Follow him!"
"Shouldn’t we report to Lord Xiang Guo first?" Long Xiao Wu, timid and fearful of trouble, held onto the belief that Lord Xiang Guo was supreme and that they should simply follow his orders.
"We'll see how it goes. Have you forgotten what Lord Xiang Guo said? That He Er Gou has a very formidable master. If we report without confirming whether his master is around and Lord Xiang Guo encounters him, we’ll be in big trouble," Wang Chi glared at Long Xiao Wu. This guy really was a coward. "Besides, if we can capture this He Er Gou and hand him over to Lord Xiang Guo, the reward would be enough for both of us to break through two realms."
"Well..."
"Stop hesitating! Trust me; I wouldn't lead you astray. We’ll share the wealth together. Now come on!" Seeing that Long Xiao Wu was still hesitant, Wang Chi, feeling anxious, pulled him along as they headed out.
Once outside of Cold Ice City, Mo Wen plunged into the wilderness. Unlike places like Yinzhou, which were filled with dense forests, the cold region where Cold Ice City lay had relatively few trees even in the wild. The ground was covered in white snow; finding a place for the tribulation wasn’t difficult as long as it was remote enough.
