Lin Yuan stared at his phone screen, the message from Lu Min hanging over him like a sword. He took a deep breath and decided to postpone his visit to the Qi Gong Association, opting instead to explore his new abilities.
"If I can devour Lingqi, what about other Cultivators?" The thought flashed through Lin Yuan's mind, and he startled himself. "What am I thinking? Am I really considering sucking someone else's blood?"
But curiosity killed the cat; it always drove people to try the unknown. Lin Yuan resolved to find a weaker Cultivator to test the waters. After all, this ability was too bizarre, and any mishap could lead to trouble.
The alley near Jiangnan University was a common training ground for Cultivators. Lin Yuan rode his old electric scooter slowly through it. It was around three or four in the afternoon, and the sun wasn't too harsh. Groups of students practiced simple Lingqi exercises scattered throughout the alley.
Lin Yuan squinted, carefully observing each person's Spiritual Energy Fluctuation. Suddenly, he noticed a somewhat shady character in a corner, furtively pouring something into his hands.
"Hey, buddy, what are you up to?" Lin Yuan approached casually.
The man jumped in surprise and quickly hid what he was holding behind his back. "N-nothing, just practicing."
Lin Yuan's sharp eyes had already seen that the man was holding a bottle of Spirit Enhancer, a banned substance in the cultivation world known to cause irreversible harm to the body.
"Oh, so you're doing drugs," Lin Yuan said loudly on purpose. "How about something more explosive? I've got some top-notch Xianren Tiao that will definitely send you flying."
The man panicked at this and stammered, "N-no, I'm not doing drugs!"
Lin Yuan chuckled and reached for the bottle in the man's hand. They struggled for it, and accidentally, Lin Yuan's palm brushed against the man's arm.
In that instant, Lin Yuan felt a familiar pulling force surge from his palm. The man's face turned pale suddenly, and he swayed dangerously close to falling.
"W-what did you do to me?" The man looked at Lin Yuan in terror, his voice trembling.
Lin Yuan was startled as well; he hadn't expected his ability to trigger so easily. But what surprised him more was that he felt an unfamiliar Lingqi flowing within him, seemingly accompanied by fragmented memories.
"I'm sorry; I didn't mean to," Lin Yuan quickly apologized while secretly feeling exhilarated. The sensation of devouring this time was much stronger than when he absorbed a Spiritual Energy Ball; it seemed that Lingqi within a human body was indeed purer.
The man weakly waved his hand. "Forget it; I didn't want to practice this broken technique anyway. If you like it, you can have this bottle." With that, he staggered away.
Holding the bottle of Spirit Enhancer, Lin Yuan felt a mix of excitement and apprehension. He knew it was harmful but couldn't resist trying to see if he could devour the Lingqi within the drug.
"Whatever; if it doesn't work out, I can always spit it out." Gritting his teeth, Lin Yuan opened the cap and poured the liquid into his palm.
To his surprise, as soon as the liquid touched his skin, it vanished instantly as if absorbed by a sponge. Lin Yuan felt a surge of violent energy coursing through him, nearly causing him to lose his balance.
"Wow, this thing is way too powerful!" Lin Yuan leaned against the wall, breathing heavily. He felt as if his body had been ignited, every cell rejoicing in exhilaration.
At that moment, a strange voice echoed in his mind: "Spirit Flow Skill acquired. Would you like to use it immediately?"
Lin Yuan was taken aback. What was going on? Did he just receive a system notification? But since he had a new skill, he definitely had to give it a try.
"Use it!" Lin Yuan silently commanded in his mind.
In the next second, he felt the Lingqi within him begin to flow in a peculiar manner, moving at an astonishing speed compared to before. The once restless energy suddenly became docile, obediently merging into his meridians.
"Wow, this feeling is incredible!" Lin Yuan couldn't help but exclaim. He felt an overwhelming surge of power coursing through him, as if he could split a mountain with his bare hands.
Just as Lin Yuan was reveling in this marvelous sensation, he suddenly felt dizzy. His vision began to blur, and his body uncontrollably lurched forward.
"Oh no, could it be that the effects of the medicine are too strong?" Lin Yuan thought frantically, but there was no time to react.
In the last moment before losing consciousness, Lin Yuan seemed to see a blurry female figure. The outline was familiar and bore a resemblance to Lu Min, whom he had met at the hospital.
"Who... are you?" Lin Yuan wanted to ask, but his consciousness slipped completely into darkness.
After an unknown amount of time, Lin Yuan finally stirred awake. He found himself still lying in that alley, covered with an unfamiliar coat.
"How long did I sleep?" Lin Yuan rubbed his eyes and checked his phone, realizing that less than half an hour had passed.
As he stood up, Lin Yuan was astonished to discover that his physical condition was remarkably good. Not only did he feel no discomfort, but he also felt energized and full of strength.
"Could this be what they call turning misfortune into fortune?" Lin Yuan couldn't help but chuckle. He tried circulating the Lingqi within him and found that not only was it moving much faster than before, but there was also a peculiar sense of control over it.
"It seems I've really hit the jackpot this time," Lin Yuan thought happily. However, he quickly recalled the blurry figure he saw before losing consciousness. Was it just an illusion, or had someone really been there?
While Lin Yuan was deep in thought, his phone suddenly vibrated. It was a message from Zhou Haoran: "Old Lin, are you okay? I sensed some unusual Spiritual Energy Fluctuation from your side earlier. Is everything alright?"
Lin Yuan then remembered that he had forgotten to inform Zhou Haoran about his experiment. He quickly replied: "I'm fine! Just accidentally absorbed something strange; I'm all good now."
After sending the message, Lin Yuan suddenly realized a problem: if Zhou Haoran could sense the Spiritual Energy Fluctuation from him, what about others? Especially that mysterious Lu Min—had she noticed anything?
At this thought, Lin Yuan couldn't help but shiver. He decided to head home first to sort out his thoughts before considering what to do next.
As Lin Yuan was about to leave the alley, a familiar voice suddenly called out from behind him, "Mr. Lin, I didn't expect your abilities to progress so quickly."
Lin Yuan turned around abruptly and saw Lu Min standing at the entrance of the alley, a meaningful smile on her face.
"Dr. Lu? What are you doing here?" Lin Yuan forced himself to remain calm, but his heart was already racing.
Lu Min chuckled lightly, "I told you, the Qi Gong Association is very interested in you. Since you didn't come to us at the agreed time, we had no choice but to come find you."
Alarm bells rang in Lin Yuan's mind as he realized he might have fallen into a carefully laid trap. But what terrified him more was the intense attraction he felt towards Lu Min's Lingqi, as if every cell in his body was screaming to consume her.
"What... what's happening?" Lin Yuan looked at his hands in horror as they reached uncontrollably towards Lu Min.
Lu Min seemed to have anticipated this; instead of retreating, she stepped closer and grabbed Lin Yuan's wrist. "Don't be afraid, this is just a normal reaction to your awakening abilities. Come with me, and I will tell you everything about this power."
Lin Yuan wanted to break free, but Lu Min's strength exceeded his expectations. Just when he felt trapped, a familiar figure suddenly descended from above and stood between them.
"Stop!" The newcomer shouted, and Lin Yuan recognized it was his friend Zhou Haoran.
Lu Min frowned and released Lin Yuan's wrist. "Doctor Zhou, this is an internal matter of the Qi Gong Association; I hope you won't interfere."
Zhou Haoran sneered, "Internal matter? It looks like you're up to some shady experiments again. Lin Yuan is my friend, and I won't let you harm him."
