Lin Yuan stood at the entrance of the alley, watching the tense standoff between Lu Min and Zhou Haoran, his heart racing. One was a mysterious member of the Qi Gong Association, and the other was his good friend; it was hard to see how they could coexist peacefully.
"Hey now, you two don't need to be so hostile," Lin Yuan forced a smile, trying to ease the tension. "Let's talk this out calmly."
Lu Min shot Lin Yuan a glance, a slight smirk playing on her lips. "Mr. Lin, your newly acquired abilities are quite impressive. How about you come back to the Association with me for some in-depth research?"
Zhou Haoran quickly pulled Lin Yuan behind him, blocking his path. "Don't even think about it! Old Lin, don't let this enchantress fool you."
Lin Yuan felt dizzy from their back-and-forth banter. Just as he was about to say something, he suddenly sensed a strong Spiritual Energy Fluctuation coming from afar. His expression turned serious in an instant.
"Something's off!" Lin Yuan whispered, scanning his surroundings warily.
At that moment, three shadowy figures descended from above, landing at the entrance of the alley. Dressed in black robes and wearing eerie masks, they exuded a chilling aura.
"The Obsidian Empire!" Lu Min exclaimed, her face paling instantly.
Lin Yuan was taken aback. "Obsidian Empire? What is that?"
Zhou Haoran explained in a hushed tone, "It's a mysterious organization rumored to wield a terrifying power that combines advanced technology with ancient Taoist techniques."
Before Lin Yuan could process this information, the three cloaked figures launched their attack. A strange black mist suddenly appeared in their hands and enveloped the trio.
"Be careful! That's an illusion!" Lu Min shouted as she formed hand seals, sending a beam of golden light from her palms to collide with the black mist.
Lin Yuan felt his vision blur as the surroundings warped around him. The alley transformed into a desolate desert under a blazing sun, waves of heat rising from the ground. He felt his skin burning and his throat parched.
"What... what is happening?" Lin Yuan exclaimed in panic, looking around only to find that Zhou Haoran and Lu Min had vanished without a trace.
At that moment, a deep voice echoed in his ear, "Give up struggling; you can't escape."
Lin Yuan abruptly turned around and saw a burly man standing behind him, gripping a long knife that glimmered ominously. The man's gaze was icy, as if he were looking at a corpse.
"Who is this giant?" Lin Yuan exclaimed, stepping back in fright and nearly tripping over the sand.
In this critical moment, Lin Yuan suddenly recalled the newly acquired skill, "Lingqi Flow." He took a deep breath, focused his mind, and felt the flow of Lingqi within him.
"Break for me!" Lin Yuan shouted, and the Lingqi within him erupted like a torrent breaking through a dam.
The illusion before him dissipated like bubbles, and Lin Yuan found himself back in the alley. He saw Zhou Haoran engaged in a struggle with a man in black while Lu Min was dealing with two others.
"Old Lin, watch your back!" Zhou Haoran's voice suddenly rang out.
Instinctively, Lin Yuan sidestepped just as a cold flash whizzed past his ear. Turning around, he was shocked to see the giant from the illusion, now raising his long knife to strike.
"Wow, you’re real!" Lin Yuan gasped, instinctively reaching out his hand.
Just as his palm was about to make contact with the giant, a familiar pulling force surged within him. The giant's movement abruptly halted, his face turning pale.
Lin Yuan felt an unfamiliar power flooding into his body, followed by a voice in his mind: "Instant Sword Qi skill acquired. Would you like to use it immediately?"
"Yes! Use it now!" Lin Yuan shouted internally.
In the next second, he felt a sharp energy erupting from his palm. That energy transformed into an invisible sword qi that pierced straight through the giant's chest.
The giant's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked down at his chest before collapsing to the ground with a thud.
Lin Yuan stood frozen in place, staring at his palm, momentarily at a loss for words. "Did I... just kill someone?"
At that moment, Zhou Haoran's voice broke through his thoughts. "Old Lin, stop dawdling! Come help me!"
Snapping back to reality, Lin Yuan rushed towards Zhou Haoran. He saw his good friend being pinned down by a man in black, the situation looking dire.
"Hey, big guy!" Lin Yuan shouted at the black-clad figure. "Want to try my 'Xianren Tiao'? I guarantee it'll send you flying!"
The black-clad man was taken aback, clearly not expecting someone to joke in such a tense situation. This moment of distraction gave Zhou Haoran the opportunity he needed. He flipped over, breaking free from the man's grip, and struck the black-clad figure in the back with a powerful palm.
With a loud thud, the black-clad man flew backward like a kite with its string cut, crashing heavily against the wall before sliding down to the ground, motionless.
Meanwhile, Lu Min had already dealt with the remaining two black-clad men. Her long hair was slightly disheveled, and her chest heaved heavily, clearly showing that this fight had taken its toll on her as well.
"Phew... finally done," Lin Yuan sighed in relief, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
Lu Min approached him, her eyes filled with surprise. "Mr. Lin, what technique did you just use? I've never seen anything like it before."
Lin Yuan scratched his head sheepishly. "Well... it's a long story."
Zhou Haoran interjected, "Now's not the time for that. We need to get out of here; the Obsidian Empire people will definitely come back."
Just as the three were about to leave, Lin Yuan suddenly felt a wave of dizziness wash over him. He staggered slightly, nearly losing his balance.
"Old Lin, are you okay?" Zhou Haoran quickly supported him.
Lin Yuan shook his head. "I'm fine; I might have just overexerted myself back there."
Lu Min glanced thoughtfully at Lin Yuan. "It seems your new ability is still unstable. Come back to the Qi Gong Association with me; they have professional equipment that can help you."
Zhou Haoran was about to protest, but Lin Yuan spoke up first. "Alright, I'll go with you."
"Old Lin!" Zhou Haoran exclaimed, anxious. "Are you crazy? The Qi Gong Association is not a good place!"
Lin Yuan patted Zhou Haoran's shoulder reassuringly. "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. Besides, you're going too, right? With you watching over me, what do I have to fear?"
Zhou Haoran wanted to say more, but seeing Lin Yuan's determined expression, he could only nod in resignation.
As the three of them stepped out of the alley, a black sedan stopped in front of them. The window slowly rolled down, revealing a handsome East Asian face.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Miss Lu," the man said with a smile, his gaze landing on Lin Yuan. "This must be Mr. Lin, right? I've heard so much about you."
Lin Yuan felt a jolt of unease; there was something about this man that exuded an inexplicable sense of danger. He instinctively took a step back but was caught by Lu Min's grip on his wrist.
"Don't be afraid," Lu Min whispered. "This is Mr. Dazai Naoki from our association. He won't harm you."
Lin Yuan forced a smile and followed Lu Min into the car. Zhou Haoran followed closely behind, his eyes warily fixed on Dazai Naoki.
The car slowly started moving, heading toward an unknown destination. As Lin Yuan watched the scenery rush by outside the window, his heart was filled with questions and unease.
