In the town of Magic Valley, there were no rules; the only rule was that there were no rules.
Even the unspoken agreement not to harm shopkeepers stemmed from the fear of having no one to serve them, rather than a genuine prohibition.
After Blackbeard entered this town, in just a hundred meters, there were three fights, eight thefts, and fifty instances of shouting matches.
Truly a place with "simple folk"!
As Blackbeard munched on the fruit he had snatched from a young pirate, he spoke to his subordinates:
"This mission is foolproof. We absolutely cannot let that Straw Hat brat escape."
"Oka, you have sharp eyes. Go to the highest building in town and keep watch over everything."
"Once you spot the Straw Hat brat, signal us by firing your gun. If I can't catch him and he gets away, you have permission to shoot him down."
If he couldn't have it, he would destroy it!
Just one Luffy; there would be many other opportunities for him to become a Warlord of the Sea.
Fan Oka responded affirmatively and quickly climbed to the rooftop with his gun in hand.
Blackbeard turned to Lafitte and continued:
"Lafitte, since you can fly, please provide aerial support. When I make my move, intercept them from the outside."
"Understood."
With that, Lafitte spread his wings and vanished into the sky.
"Poison Q, you are the only doctor on our team, and your importance is self-evident, so we won't have you fighting."
"Just look for some medicine or supplies around this town. It won't cost you anything, just take what you need."
A moment of silence followed, the air thick with awkwardness.
Blackbeard, frustrated, slapped Poison Q.
"If you're still alive, make a sound; otherwise, I might just bury you."
Poison Q coughed repeatedly and weakly replied, "Yes."
Blackbeard sighed in exasperation, waving him away to fend for himself.
Facing the remaining crew member, the eager and restless Bajess, Blackbeard felt a twinge of fear. This kid had poured all his skill points into brute strength.
He was strong as an ox but seemed to have a brain that was withering away.
Bajess couldn't contain his bubbling excitement. "Captain, what should I do?"
Blackbeard patted his shoulder and said earnestly:
"Bajess, I have an important task for you."
"Uh-huh, uh-huh."
"I need you to gather some food. After we succeed, we’ll have a long journey ahead of us, and we can't go without food."
"Alright."
Bajess heard about food and immediately scampered off excitedly.
Blackbeard noticed that everyone had dispersed and walked into the tavern by himself, planning to enjoy some wheat juice.
He wasn't worried about not running into Luffy, as they were destined to be adversaries.
It was also fated that they would meet.
Blackbeard's fruit was darkness, while Straw Hat Luffy represented the sun god.
The time when Blackbeard began his betrayal coincided with Luffy's departure.
One was cunning and treacherous, while the other was sunny and cheerful.
The two were like opposing magnetic poles, developing in different directions yet inevitably drawn to each other.
Upon entering the tavern, he found it bustling with activity, the air filled with two distinct fermented scents: one of wheat juice and the other of pirates' clothes that had not been washed for years, becoming increasingly foul from exposure to the elements.
Approaching the counter, Blackbeard ordered a few Cherry Pies and a drink.
He had long been eager to try the delicious Cherry Pies described in his memories.
"Creek."
Someone pushed the door open and entered.
"This is such a pleasant little town," one of the newcomers remarked.
There were two men and one woman in the group.
One of them, wearing a straw hat and looking somewhat foolish, was accompanied by a green-haired man who held a sword, ever vigilant. The third was a short-haired, attractive young woman.
Indeed, they were none other than the Straw Hat Crew.
Upon seeing the long-awaited Straw Hats arrive, Blackbeard broke into a broad smile.
"You got here pretty quickly; I assume you landed before me."
"Let's not linger too long. We should finish this job and get out," he replied.
The longer one stayed in one place, the easier it was to be discovered.
He was still a fugitive, and with only a few allies by his side, if the pursuers included not just Fire Fist Ace but also some outsiders, he might not be able to escape.
Although he had read about the Pirate King, who knew if his presence had somehow influenced Ace's thoughts, making him feel more secure with additional pursuers?
The three Straw Hats entered the tavern and noticed there were some empty seats at the bar.
In need of rest and eager to gather some information, they approached the bar despite Nami's evident discomfort with the tavern's atmosphere and sat down next to Blackbeard.
As soon as Nami settled in, she ordered drinks and food, expressing her unease and annoyance.
"I don't like this town."
Zoro ordered a large cup of alcohol and downed it in one gulp, saying with gusto,
"Ha ha! If you think that way, it means you're still a normal person."
"But unfortunately, normal people are a rare breed in this town."
Nami shook her head and raised her hand to check her compass. "If we stay for four more days, the records will be full. So before that, don't stir up any trouble, and we can leave safely."
"But I can't even stay for two days."
"Let's hope nothing unexpected happens."
Luffy was lost in the delightful anticipation of food, completely oblivious to their conversation.
To him, any enemy could be knocked away with a single punch; the most important thing right now was to eat.
The shopkeeper brought out the Cherry Pie ordered by Blackbeard.
The pie looked incredibly delicious, with melted cheese combined with sweet cherries, all wrapped in a soft and chewy crust. Just one glance made it feel like being enveloped in sweetness.
Luffy, unable to contain his excitement at the tempting Cherry Pie, stretched out his arm and stealthily grabbed a plate to bring it to his table.
"Anyway, it doesn't matter what I do in this town. Taking a bit of someone else's food isn't breaking any rules."
"Nami can't say anything about me either."
Luffy eagerly brought the Cherry Pie to his mouth, savoring the taste of exotic cuisine.
“Pfft.”
This was the first time Luffy had ever spat out food. Known for his iron stomach, he had only ever lightly commented on the taste of Devil Fruits, never reaching the point of vomiting.
The fact that this particular dish could make him do so was a clear indication of just how terrible it was!
“Hey, old man!”
Luffy was angry. How could anyone make food this awful?
“This Cherry Pie is disgusting!”
“On the contrary, this Cherry Pie is delicious!”
As Luffy complained about the terrible taste, a raspy voice nearby caught his attention, one that he found utterly detestable.
What was even worse was that the speaker thought this revolting dish was actually good—an outright insult to cuisine!
Blackbeard, tall and imposing, looked down at Luffy with a sinister grin as he stuffed the Cherry Pie into his mouth.
“It’s absolutely delightful,” he said.
After finishing, he even shook his head in appreciation, seemingly taunting Luffy.
But it wasn’t intentional provocation from Blackbeard.
This Cherry Pie was genuinely delicious—the fragrant fruits, the sweet cheese, and the soft crust combined to create a flavor experience that was undeniably greater than the sum of its parts.
"Some people might have a problem with their taste buds, unable to distinguish between gourmet food and dog poop..."
"Tsk tsk tsk, so young yet so foolish."
This was clearly Blackbeard's deliberate provocation. After all, he had been reborn and found himself in the worst of situations; if he didn't act arrogantly, how could he justify his existence?
Although Luffy was shorter in stature, his presence was anything but diminished. He looked up in silence, seemingly brewing something within him, and anger shone in his eyes.
Truly the darling of the world, his aura was unmatched.
Nami, fearing a conflict and terrified, hurriedly urged, "Luffy, don't let him provoke you. Let's just ignore him."
"Yeah."
Luffy casually agreed, not letting it get to him. To calm his rising anger, he grabbed a drink nearby and downed it in one gulp.
"This drink is amazing!"
Luffy's eyes lit up as he realized how much he enjoyed this beverage.
"This drink tastes terrible!"
Just then, an irritating voice pierced through his thoughts, and Luffy could no longer hold back.
