Meng Hao suddenly turned around, the poisoned dagger glinting with a cold light in the night. Two masked figures in black charged at him with fierce intent, their sole objective to eliminate Meng Hao outside the council hall. With a roar, Meng Hao summoned the Heavenly Axe into his hand, the brilliance of his bronze arm swirling around him, dazzling enough to deflect the deadly strike. The dagger clashed against the axe, producing a sharp screech as sparks flew. A numbing sensation traveled up the axe handle to Meng Hao's hand; he realized that this poison was no ordinary threat.
"Hmph, mere tricks!" Meng Hao scoffed, his body twisting as he swung the Heavenly Axe with a howling wind. The two black-clad figures clearly did not expect such a swift reaction from him; they stumbled back in disarray. However, before they could regain their footing, Meng Hao's onslaught came crashing down like a torrential storm. The Heavenly Axe sliced through the air with ferocity, its bronze glow becoming increasingly radiant, each swing carrying the force to split mountains and shatter stones. The two attackers were forced to retreat step by step, their expressions growing graver.
"Meng Hao, don't get too cocky!" one of the black-clad figures hissed ominously, his voice raspy like an owl in the night. "This poison will make you wish you were dead!"
Meng Hao furrowed his brow; he felt his internal energy rapidly depleting and his body beginning to stiffen. He knew he could not delay any longer. With a fierce stomp, he shot upward, bringing the Heavenly Axe down with the weight of Mount Tai! The faces of the two black-clad figures changed dramatically; they had not anticipated that Meng Hao could unleash such overwhelming power. They desperately tried to evade him, but the speed of the Heavenly Axe was too great. One figure barely had time to scream before being struck by the axe blade, flying backward like a kite with its string cut, crashing heavily against the wall and spitting blood.
The other black-clad figure's eyes flashed with terror upon witnessing this. He realized that this seemingly simple woodsman was far more formidable than they had imagined. No longer willing to fight, he attempted to flee. Yet Meng Hao would not let him escape so easily; he shifted his stance and appeared before the fleeing man like a ghost, positioning the Heavenly Axe at his neck.
"Speak! Who sent you?" Meng Hao asked coldly, his voice laced with a bloodthirsty intent.
The black-clad figure hesitated for a moment, but soon desperation took over. Just as he opened his mouth to respond, his pupils dilated sharply and he coughed up a mouthful of black blood before collapsing limply to the ground.
"Did he take his own life?" Meng Hao's heart sank; it was clear that whoever was behind this did not want any witnesses left alive.
At that moment, several figures rushed in from nearby—it was Bai Yunzi and several elders who had been pursuing the intruders. Upon seeing the two lifeless bodies on the ground, their expressions turned grim.
"Meng Hao, what is going on?!" Bai Yunzi asked sternly, fixing a sharp gaze on him.
Meng Hao took a deep breath, striving to calm the turmoil within him. He knew he had been poisoned and needed to find an antidote quickly. He briefly recounted what had transpired and emphasized their ambush and subsequent suicide.
"Suicide?" One elder stepped forward to examine the bodies closely, his face darkening further. "It's Heart-Eating Powder! This poison is colorless and odorless; once it takes effect, it leads to instant death without any antidote!"
Meng Hao's heart sank; he hadn't expected such cruelty from his adversaries—they wouldn't even spare their own men. He felt increasingly heavy and began seeing double.
"Master... disciple... I'm not feeling well..." Before Meng Hao could finish speaking, dizziness overwhelmed him and he staggered unsteadily.
“Meng Hao!” Bai Yunzi reacted quickly, catching Meng Hao as he felt the chaotic energy within him. His face turned pale instantly. He scanned the elders present and said in a deep voice, “Meng Hao has been poisoned; he must be treated immediately!”
“Master, this boy’s origins are unclear, and he is severely poisoned. There may be something suspicious about this!” one elder said with a sneer, clearly still harboring doubts about him.
“Enough!” Bai Yunzi shouted angrily. “Meng Hao has saved our sect today; how dare you speak such nonsense! Someone, quickly take Meng Hao to the secret chamber; I will personally treat his injuries!”
Meng Hao felt darkness closing in around him, and he heard Bai Yunzi’s furious voice before losing consciousness.
When Meng Hao awoke again, he found himself in a pitch-black secret chamber. The walls were covered with intricate runes that emitted a faint glow, but this light could not dispel the shadows deep within the chamber. He tried to move his body but found himself bound by an invisible force, unable to move his hands or feet. The internal energy within him felt sealed, unable to circulate.
“Damn it!” Meng Hao’s heart sank as he realized he was trapped. He attempted to retrieve the Heavenly Axe from his body, but the axe felt devoid of its former spirit in his hands. The bronze glow of the Heavenly Axe shield dimmed, and he couldn’t even gather a hint of energy. He sensed the power of the Golden Arm boiling within him but felt it suppressed by some force, unable to fully unleash itself. It was as if he possessed immense strength yet could not release it, filling him with despair and rage.
“Li Muqing, you bastard!” Meng Hao growled through gritted teeth. He knew this had to be Li Muqing’s scheme. That treacherous little man had taken advantage of his poisoned state to imprison him here!
Despair washed over him like a tide. He recalled the days spent with his parents in the mountain village, remembered his ambitions after obtaining the Heavenly Axe, and thought of Sun Ruoshui’s sparkling eyes… Was he really going to die trapped here?
“No!” Meng Hao shook his head fiercely, a flame of defiance igniting in his eyes. “I will not give up! I still want to become the leader of the martial world, to master all divine weapons, and to uphold the chivalry in my heart! I will not be forced into submission; I will defy fate!”
He remembered Bai Yunzi’s teachings after the martial competition. Bai Yunzi had once said, “On the path of martial arts, one’s mindset is crucial. Only with a focused heart can one grasp the true essence of martial arts.” Meng Hao closed his eyes and tried to cast aside all distractions, seeking a deeper connection with the Heavenly Axe.
In meditation, Meng Hao felt a faint vibration from the Heavenly Axe. The tremor was like a gentle breeze brushing over a lake, gradually rippling outward; his internal energy began to flow slowly through his meridians. The golden light of the Golden Arm flickered in the darkness like a slumbering dragon about to awaken. He sensed a powerful force brewing within him, as if he could tear apart this secret chamber at will!
Just as Meng Hao immersed himself in resonance with the Heavenly Axe, outside the chamber, Li Muqing was sneering with a hint of sickly excitement on his face. He had already spread news of an intrusion into the forbidden area throughout Kongtong Sect and secretly guided everyone to point their fingers at Meng Hao. Now that Meng Hao was imprisoned in the secret chamber, all he needed to do was wait for an opportune moment to ignite greater chaos.
“Meng Hao, oh Meng Hao,” Li Muqing muttered sinisterly to himself, “do you think you are strong? You are merely my pawn! When you are spurned by the world and abandoned by your sect, I will personally take your Heavenly Axe and trample you underfoot!”
