In the Kongtong Sect's infirmary, shrouded in the darkness of night, the air was thick with the stench of blood and herbs.
Inside and outside the tents, anguished groans echoed, rising and falling like a mournful symphony.
Meng Hao stood outside the tent, listening to the heart-wrenching cries and watching as bodies were carried in, his heart twisted in pain.
Each one was a living soul, fallen victim to the schemes of the Underworld.
He gripped the Heavenly Axe tightly, his knuckles turning white from the strain.
“Meng Hao, come inside and take a look,” Sun Ruoshui's voice, tinged with urgency, broke through Meng Hao's thoughts.
He hurried into the tent and saw Sun Ruoshui kneeling beside a body. The man's chest had been pierced, clearly a fatal wound.
Sun Ruoshui was desperately channeling her inner strength, but the man's breath grew fainter by the moment.
Her slender fingers gently brushed over her disciple's wound, spiritual energy flowing like a trickle into him, yet it could not save a life slipping away.
“I... I did my best...” Tears streamed down Sun Ruoshui's face again as she looked into the man's fading eyes, feeling the life ebb away and overwhelmed by helplessness.
Meng Hao's face turned ashen; he recognized this body instantly. It was a Kongtong disciple he had fought alongside!
He stepped forward, grabbing Sun Ruoshui by the shoulders with a fierce grip, his voice hoarse and filled with anger. “What happened?! Didn’t we retreat to safety?!”
Startled by Meng Hao's sudden action, Sun Ruoshui looked up at him, her eyes filled with fear and despair. “It’s... it’s Lu Tianxiang! He brought people after us; we... we couldn’t hold them off…”
“Lu Tianxiang!” Flames of rage ignited in Meng Hao’s eyes as he spun around and dashed out of the tent.
He knew that Lu Tianxiang was an underling of the Underworld, and his goal was to eradicate them completely!
“Meng Hao! Where are you going?!” Sun Ruoshui called out anxiously, wanting to chase after him but being held back by Hu Meng.
"Let him go," Hu Meng said softly, her eyes filled with complex emotions as she watched Meng Hao's retreating figure. "He needs to vent."
Like a wild horse breaking free, Meng Hao burst out of the infirmary. He let out a roar, swinging the Heavenly Axe with all his might. The golden axe light flashed like lightning, cleaving through the shadowy assassins of the Underworld who were slaughtering the Kongtong disciples.
"Bang!" One of the assassins barely had time to react before being split in half by the axe light, blood spraying everywhere.
"Kill!" Meng Hao's eyes were filled with murderous intent as he unleashed the full power of his Golden Arm. Each swing created a thunderous roar that tore through the air.
The Underworld assassins were no match for him; anyone grazed by the axe blade would instantly turn to blood mist.
Lu Tianxiang stood not far away, watching Meng Hao's god-like figure with shock and fear in his eyes.
He never expected Meng Hao's strength to have increased once again!
Moreover, his killing intent was so intense!
"Damn it!" Lu Tianxiang gritted his teeth, realizing that if he didn't kill Meng Hao today, he would surely become a future threat!
He suddenly pulled out a poisoned throwing knife from his pocket, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes.
With a swift movement, he darted toward Meng Hao's back like a ghost, the knife gleaming coldly as it aimed for Meng Hao's vital points.
However, just as the knife was about to strike Meng Hao, his figure vanished like a wraith.
Lu Tianxiang was struck with terror and had no time to react before he heard a muffled thud. A tremendous force hit him, sending him flying backward to crash heavily onto the ground, causing him to lose grip on the throwing knife.
"Did you think I would fall for the same trick again?!" Meng Hao's voice echoed like it came from hell as he suddenly appeared before Lu Tianxiang, raising the Heavenly Axe high. The golden axe light loomed over Lu Tianxiang like the scythe of death.
A sharp pain pierced Lu Tianxiang's chest as he struggled to rise but found himself utterly powerless.
He looked into Meng Hao's cold eyes and felt an unprecedented fear.
He knew he was doomed.
Just as the Heavenly Axe was about to descend, a black figure suddenly appeared in front of Lu Tianxiang, striking out with a palm towards the Heavenly Axe!
With a loud bang, the golden light of the axe collided with the shadow of the black palm, producing a deafening roar.
Meng Hao felt a tremendous force surge towards him, and he couldn't help but take two steps back to steady himself.
Looking up, he saw a woman dressed in black, her figure graceful, standing in front of Lu Tianxiang. A hint of a seductive smile graced her lips, yet her eyes were filled with coldness.
"Li Yunyan?!" A flash of shock crossed Meng Hao's eyes. He hadn't expected Li Yunyan to appear here, and even more surprising was the significant increase in her power!
Li Yunyan said nothing; she merely gazed at Meng Hao, her eyes shimmering with an unusual light.
A playful smile curled at the corners of her lips as she thought to herself, "Meng Hao, your strength has indeed grown stronger. However... soon, everything you have will belong to me!"
She gently extended her hand and slowly caressed Lu Tianxiang's cheek, her voice soft. "General Lu, are you alright?"
Lu Tianxiang looked at Li Yunyan, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. He shook his head and remained silent.
"Meng Hao, let's end this for today," Li Yunyan's voice was gentle yet carried an undeniable authority. "We have plenty of time ahead."
With that, she vanished into the night with Lu Tianxiang and the remaining specters from the Underworld like a wraith.
Meng Hao watched Li Yunyan's departing figure, his brow furrowed.
He understood that Li Yunyan's appearance was no coincidence.
The conspiracy of the Underworld was far more intricate than he had imagined.
He lowered his gaze to his left arm, which was empty except for a gruesome wound.
The bloody price only fueled the flames of revenge burning within him.
He needed to become stronger, strong enough to control everything!
He felt the powerful force surging within the Golden Arm, and his gaze gradually became resolute.
He knew that his path of growth was now clear.
Li Yunyan's figure darted through the night, a smug smile playing at the corners of her lips.
She had seen Meng Hao's potential, recognized the immense power he possessed.
She understood that as long as she could obtain the Heavenly Axe, she would be able to master it all!
A greedy light flickered in her eyes as she began to plot how to harness Meng Hao's strength for herself.
A greater conspiracy was quietly brewing in her mind.
In the infirmary, Sun Ruoshui and Hu Meng were busy moving among the injured. Their foreheads were beaded with sweat, their faces pale, yet they pressed on with determination.
Sun Ruoshui used her spiritual energy to mend a disciple's broken meridians. Her slender fingers gently brushed over the disciple's wounds, the energy flowing like a gentle stream, alleviating their pain.
Her long hair was disheveled from her efforts, but she paid no mind to tidying it up, focusing solely on her task.
"Hiss—" A disciple gasped in pain, and Sun Ruoshui gently patted his shoulder, softly reassuring him, "Just hold on; it will be over soon."
Her voice carried a hint of fatigue but was filled with strength.
Meng Hao returned to the infirmary and took in the scene before him, his heart heavy as a mountain.
He walked over to Sun Ruoshui, watching her busy figure, and a warm feeling surged in his heart.
“How are you? Can you hold on?” Meng Hao's voice was a bit hoarse as he reached out to gently support Sun Ruoshui's shoulder.
Sun Ruoshui shook her head, forcing a smile. “I’m fine. I can still hold on.”
She lifted her head, concern filling her eyes. “Meng Hao, are you… okay?”
Meng Hao shook his head, a hint of fatigue flashing in his eyes. “I’m fine, it’s just… seeing these brothers suffer makes me feel bad.”
“I know.” Sun Ruoshui sighed softly, glancing at Meng Hao's empty left arm with a flicker of sympathy. “You’ve suffered for us.”
“It’s nothing.” Meng Hao’s gaze was resolute. “As long as I can protect everyone, this little injury is nothing.”
At that moment, Bai Yunzi slowly walked into the wounded soldiers' camp, supported by several disciples.
His pale face bore a trace of exhaustion, yet his eyes remained sharp.
“Meng Hao, you’re back,” Bai Yunzi said, noticing Meng Hao's empty left arm with a flicker of concern. “You did well; the disciples of Kongtong Sect won’t have died in vain.”
Meng Hao nodded silently, looking at the injured disciples with deep sorrow in his eyes.
“The conspiracy of the Underworld is far deeper than we imagined,” Bai Yunzi said solemnly. “This time, they are not only after divine weapons but also aiming to completely control the martial world.”
“Master, what should we do?” a disciple asked, his voice tinged with despair.
Bai Yunzi shook his head and looked at Meng Hao, a profound meaning flashing in his eyes. “Right now, the most important thing is to uncover the mastermind behind the Underworld and eliminate them completely.”
He walked over to a simple table where several items collected from the battlefield were laid out.
Among them, a black token engraved with strange runes caught Meng Hao’s attention.
He would be the center of this storm.
He silently vowed to uncover the secret behind this token, to find out the mastermind behind the Underworld and avenge his fallen brothers!
He would never allow the Underworld's conspiracy to succeed!
The night was deep, and the moonlight seeped through the gaps in the tent, casting a glow on Meng Hao's resolute face, illuminating the flames of vengeance burning in his eyes.
However, not far from the infirmary camp, deep within the dense forest, a dark figure quietly concealed itself among the shadows of the trees.
Li Yunyan's lips curled into a cold smile as she gazed toward the infirmary camp, her eyes filled with calculation.
Her fingertips lightly brushed against a black rune identical to the one in Meng Hao's hand, except that the rune she held exuded a more intense aura of malevolence.
"Meng Hao, oh Meng Hao, do you think you've discovered some remarkable secret?" Li Yunyan murmured to herself, her voice laced with mockery. "This is just the beginning."
Greed sparkled in her eyes as if she could already see the Heavenly Axe in Meng Hao's hand beckoning to her.
