Zhuge Liang took the copper coin, examining it closely, his brow furrowing deeper.
"This pattern..." He traced the edge of the coin with his finger. "It’s not the craftsmanship of Great Xia."
"What do you mean?" Lin Xiaofan leaned in. "From the Western Regions?"
Zhuge Liang shook his head. "Further...," he pointed to the faint pattern visible on the back of the coin. "This resembles the legendary 'Ghostly Craft Pattern,' said to be minted only by an ancient tribe in the farthest reaches of the Western Regions."
Lin Xiaofan's heart raced. "Moro... related to the Western Regions?"
Zhuge Liang pondered for a moment. "My Lord, this coin may be more significant than we imagined. The Crown Prince's Mansion is desperately hunting Tie Zui Li, likely because of it."
Lin Xiaofan clenched the coin tightly, a glint of coldness in his eyes. "It seems... we need to have a word with the Fifth Prince."
Under the cover of night, Lin Xiaofan scaled the low wall into the Fifth Prince's courtyard. Just as he landed, two steel blades were pressed against his neck.
"Bold thief!" one of the guards barked.
"Don't be hasty; I'm here to see the Fifth Prince." Lin Xiaofan slowly raised his hands. "Just tell him Lin Xiaofan has urgent business to discuss."
The guards exchanged glances, and one turned to leave. Moments later, a familiar voice emerged from the darkness. "In the dead of night, Lin Gongzi, are you here to steal or to visit?"
Lin Xiaofan sighed in relief. "Your Highness, I found something you might be interested in."
The Fifth Prince waved his hand, and the guards immediately stepped back. By moonlight, Lin Xiaofan produced the Moro Coin. "Do you recognize this, Your Highness?"
The Fifth Prince's fan suddenly halted, an unusual glint appearing in his eyes. "Where did you get this?"
"The people from the Crown Prince's Mansion were hunting down Sparrow Feather Division’s sleeper agents for this." Lin Xiaofan lowered his voice. "Tie Zui Li told me before he died to come find you."
The Fifth Prince fell silent for a moment before abruptly turning around. "Follow me."
They passed through several hidden doors and arrived at a secret chamber beneath a library. The Fifth Prince lit a candle and retrieved a scroll from a hidden compartment in the bookshelf.
"Moro is not an individual; it's an organization," he said in a low voice. "The most mysterious assassin group from the Western Regions, skilled in illusions and disguise."
Lin Xiaofan's heart raced. "Do you suspect they have people in the palace?"
"Not just that." The Fifth Prince unfurled the map, pointing to a canyon on the border of the Western Regions. "This was once their stronghold, destroyed by Great Xia's army three years ago. But recent intelligence indicates they have resurfaced."
Just as Lin Xiaofan was about to ask more questions, urgent knocking sounded from outside. "Your Highness! Someone from the palace has arrived, saying His Majesty urgently summons you!"
The Fifth Prince frowned. "At this hour?"
"They say during a search of the General's residence, they found that painting you gifted Old General..." The voice outside hesitated before continuing, "The Crown Prince says that painting contains evidence of treason..."
The Fifth Prince's expression changed dramatically. "This is bad! It must be that 'Spring Mountain Painting.' Someone has likely tampered with it!"
Lin Xiaofan immediately replied, "I'll go with you to the palace."
After a moment of contemplation, the Fifth Prince suddenly took a set of servant's clothing from the rack. "Put this on. Remember, once we enter the palace, don't speak. Follow my lead."
The palace hall was brightly lit, and the old emperor sat drowsily on the dragon throne, while the Crown Prince stood in the center of the hall with an imposing demeanor. On the floor lay a landscape painting, and several ministers were gathered around it, whispering among themselves.
"Father!" The Fifth Prince quickly stepped forward to pay his respects. "I am unaware of the reason for your late-night summons. What urgent matter requires my presence?"
