Looking at the pink dress he was wearing, Lin Xiaofan's mouth twitched. "System, are you serious?"
Huo Qubing stared in horror at his pale yellow gown. "I would rather die on the battlefield..."
Zhuge Liang remained calm, adjusting his nonexistent glasses. "I have a plan..."
That night, behind the Crown Prince's Mansion, four sneaky "women" were climbing over the wall. Under the moonlight, Lin Xiaofan's face was covered with a veil, Zhuge Liang looked like a widow, while Huo Qubing wore an expression of utter despair.
"I am a man of seven feet..." General Huo gritted his teeth.
"Shh!" Princess Ning An made a gesture for silence, dressed as the lead dancer of the music troupe tonight. "The storeroom is in the west courtyard; follow me."
Taking advantage of the night’s cover, they slipped into the Crown Prince's Mansion. The princess skillfully led them around patrolling guards to an inconspicuous small building.
"The snow lotus should be in the ice cellar inside," she whispered. "According to intelligence, the Crown Prince is attending a secret meeting at the Ministry of War tonight, so the guards here are the most relaxed."
Just as Lin Xiaofan was about to step forward, he suddenly heard footsteps approaching. He quickly pulled the three of them aside and leaned against a pillar, pretending to be a flirtatious dancer.
"Oh, new arrivals?" Two guards approached, their eyes leering as they assessed "them."
Lin Xiaofan pinched his voice and said sweetly, "Officers~ We are from the music troupe here to perform a new dance for His Highness~"
The guards were about to tease them further when a sudden scream echoed from afar: "Water leak! The east kitchen has a water leak!"
Taking advantage of the guards rushing off to investigate, the four quickly slipped into the storeroom. Inside the ice cellar lay an exquisite jade box radiating cold air—the Western Snow Lotus!
"Got it!" Just as Lin Xiaofan was about to close the lid, he suddenly heard a cold laugh from behind.
"I want to see which 'dancer' has such boldness."
The Crown Prince—or rather, the False Crown Prince—had appeared at the door without them noticing, flanked by more than ten armed guards!
"Stealing from the inner court?" Lin Xiaofan tugged at his wrinkled dress and looked at the icy-faced Crown Prince. "Your Highness, this accusation seems rather arbitrary. We clearly came to... uh... perform!"
The Crown Prince sneered and waved his wide sleeves. "Take them away!"
A dozen guards surged forward and began to drag them toward the Dali Temple. As they passed by the Crown Prince, Lin Xiaofan suddenly lowered his voice. "How does it feel to dress as a man? Isn’t binding your chest uncomfortable?"
The Crown Prince's pupils constricted sharply, fingers instinctively tightening on her robe. After a moment, she smiled ominously. "Do you think knowing this secret will save your life?"
"Someone!" she commanded sharply. "Lock these thieves in the water prison! I will personally seek an edict!"
The water prison of the Dali Temple was dark and damp, with murky water reaching up to their knees. Lin Xiaofan and the others were locked in iron rings on the wall, unable to move.
"My Lord, this time we are in grave danger," Zhuge Liang whispered. "Since the Crown Prince dares to act against us, he must be fully prepared."
Huo Qubing struggled against the chains. "What are we afraid of! If it comes to it, we’ll fight to the death!"
Princess Ning An forced a bitter smile. "It's my fault for not considering everything..."
"Don't be so quick to give up." Lin Xiaofan moved his wrists, feeling the white jade whistle hidden in his sleeve. "Do you remember this, given to us by the Fifth Prince?"
