“Word has it that the other half is in the hands of that girl from the Nangong Family. The master has already sent someone to pursue her.”
“Let’s go, we shouldn’t linger too long.”
Nangong Shuang sensed that something was amiss; these two were clearly after the Plum Blossom Token! The “master” they mentioned was likely Zheng Yushi. If they succeeded, her plan to head to Mei Ying Villa would be thwarted.
In a split second, Nangong Shuang made her decision. She quietly stepped back a few paces, took out two silver needles, and accurately threw them at the pressure points of the two men inside the window.
With two soft sounds, the silver needles pierced through the window and struck their targets at the back of their necks. Before the black-clad men could react, they collapsed to the ground, unable to move.
Nangong Shuang swiftly climbed through the window and approached the two men.
“Indeed, they are Zheng Yushi’s people!” She noticed that one of them was holding a letter with the Zheng Family Emblem prominently stamped on it—the same emblem she had seen in her dreams and also worn by Zheng Yushi at today’s Execution Ground!
Nangong Shuang took the brocade box and opened it; inside lay half of the Plum Blossom Token. The jade pendant was warm and delicate, intricately carved with half of a plum blossom outline, strikingly similar to the mark on her wrist.
“This is the key to unlock the secret chamber of Mei Ying Villa...” Nangong Shuang gently caressed the pendant, her heart racing with excitement.
Just as she was about to leave, hurried footsteps and voices suddenly echoed from outside.
“It’s here! I just saw someone flash by!” It was the voice of a guard from the manor.
Nangong Shuang’s heart sank; she quickly scanned her surroundings for a hiding place. The layout of the side hall was simple, with hardly any spots to conceal herself. In a moment of desperation, she noticed a recessed area on a beam that could barely fit one person.
She activated her lightness skill and leaped up, just managing to hide as the door swung open.
“Who’s there?!” The guard shouted loudly as he rushed in with a torch.
“Bold intruder! How dare you break into the Sixth Prince's manor!” Another guard spotted the fallen black-clad men and immediately drew his sword in caution.
“Go report to Young Master and the Sixth Prince!” commanded the leading guard.
Moments later, Xiao Zhongyan and the Sixth Prince arrived at the scene. Upon seeing the subdued black-clad men and the opened hidden compartment in the floor, the Sixth Prince’s expression changed dramatically: “This is bad; the Plum Blossom Token has been stolen!”
Xiao Zhongyan quickly examined both black-clad men: “Their pressure points have been sealed; this was done with silver needles—whoever did this possesses exceptional skills.”
“Who could it be?” The Sixth Prince furrowed his brow. “This Plum Blossom Token was hidden very securely; aside from you, me, and Fan Lao, no one else knew.”
“It must be someone after the Plum Blossom Token,” Xiao Zhongyan pondered aloud. “But I can’t tell if this person is friend or foe. If they are Zheng Yushi’s people, why would they subdue their own? If they aren’t Zheng Yushi’s people, how did they learn about its whereabouts?”
The Sixth Prince contemplated for a moment before suddenly looking up at the beam: “Since you’ve made your move, why not show yourself?”
Nangong Shuang knew she could no longer hide; she gracefully leaped down and landed in front of them.
“Nangong Shuang?” Xiao Zhongyan exclaimed in surprise, “What are you doing here?”
Nangong Shuang's expression was calm as she placed the brocade box on the table. "I happened to discover that someone had infiltrated the manor. After following them, I found out they intended to steal the Plum Blossom Token, so I intervened."
The Sixth Prince scrutinized her. "Your skills are remarkable. This technique of sealing acupoints with silver needles bears the mark of the Nangong Family's secret martial arts."
Nangong Shuang's heart sank; she hadn't expected the Sixth Prince to have knowledge of the Nangong Family's martial arts. "Your Highness flatters me," she replied, neither servile nor overbearing. "I merely learned from a skilled practitioner in the community and understand only a little."
"Interesting." The Sixth Prince gave her a meaningful glance before turning to examine the Plum Blossom Token. "Fortunately, it was discovered in time. If this Plum Blossom Token were to fall into Zheng Yushi's hands, the consequences would be unimaginable."
"What is so special about this item?" Nangong Shuang feigned ignorance and probed further.
