"I don't know," Xiao Zhongyan said softly. "I just learned about this from the informant and rushed to notify you. We must leave immediately!"
Nangong Shuang scrutinized him warily. "Why are you so eager to help? The Xiao Family and the Nangong Family are enemies."
"I've already mentioned that my father is friends with your father, and there are hidden reasons behind the annihilation of the Nangong Family," Xiao Zhongyan replied sincerely. "Moreover, since I have already intervened to save you, would I abandon you halfway?"
Nangong Shuang still had doubts. "What if I don't trust you?"
"Then you can stay here and wait for Zheng Yushi's men to capture you," Xiao Zhongyan said helplessly. "Nangong Shuang, time is of the essence; please make a decision quickly!"
Just as she hesitated, a sudden commotion and the sound of clashing weapons came from afar.
"This is bad; they have already breached the defenses!" Xiao Zhongyan's expression changed dramatically. "Hurry, follow me!"
Nangong Shuang quickly gathered her medicine box and the fragments of the Plum Blossom Token, then followed Xiao Zhongyan out through the window. The two crept along the wall, avoiding areas of direct conflict. Indeed, the outer courtyard was surrounded by black-clad figures, while the guards inside were fighting valiantly.
"This way!" Xiao Zhongyan pointed to a side door. "This is a route I scouted earlier; there are fewer guards here."
As they rushed to the side door, they saw a dozen black-clad men stationed there, with one leading them holding a long sword and eyes like lightning.
"Uh-oh, we've been spotted!" Xiao Zhongyan whispered.
"You can't escape," the leader of the black-clad men sneered. "Nan Gong Yu Nie, come with us willingly!"
Nangong Shuang and Xiao Zhongyan stood back-to-back, their expressions grave.
"What should we do?" Nangong Shuang asked quietly.
"Charge through!" Xiao Zhongyan drew his long sword. "I'll hold them off; you go first!"
"Let's go together!" Nangong Shuang also took out her silver needles. "If we work together, we might break through."
At that moment, a clear flute melody suddenly wafted over from outside the wall, melodious yet imbued with an overwhelming power.
The black-clad men changed color upon hearing it. "It's the sound of the Sixth Prince's jade flute!"
Before the flute's sound faded, a white figure descended from above and landed before them. It was none other than the Sixth Prince, dressed in snow-white robes, exuding an extraordinary demeanor, with a jade flute glowing faintly in his hand.
"Zheng Aiqing has such audacity to intrude upon my residence!" the Sixth Prince said coldly.
The leader of the black-clad men hurriedly bowed. "Your Highness, forgive me! This official was ordered to capture a notorious criminal and did not intend to offend."
"A notorious criminal?" The Sixth Prince scoffed. "Do you have an imperial decree?"
The black-clad man was at a loss for words and dared not respond.
"Unauthorized entry into the royal residence warrants execution!" the Sixth Prince declared sternly. "Hurry and retreat, and report back to Zheng Yushi. If there is a next time, I will personally inform Father Emperor and hold him accountable!"
The man in black dared not defy the order and had to lead his group away, casting a fierce glare at Nangong Shuang before departing.
Once they were far off, the Sixth Prince turned to Nangong Shuang and Xiao Zhongyan. "Where do you plan to go?"
Xiao Zhongyan hesitated. "Zheng Yushi has set his sights on Nangong Shuang, and there are traitors within your residence, Your Highness. It may not be wise to stay here."
The Sixth Prince nodded slightly. "That is indeed true. How about this: I have a hidden palace located in the outskirts where you can temporarily avoid the storm."
"Thank you for your kind offer, Your Highness, but we have our own plans," Nangong Shuang politely declined, still unwilling to trust easily.
"Very well," the Sixth Prince said without taking offense. He then took out half of the Plum Blossom Token and handed it to Nangong Shuang. "Take this with you. Mei Ying Villa is thirty miles from the capital, situated in a remote area where you can hide while also searching for the Heavenly Fragrance Life-Extending Technique."
Nangong Shuang looked at him in surprise. "Why are you giving me the Plum Blossom Token, Your Highness?"
"This item originally belongs to the Nangong Family; it rightfully belongs to you," the Sixth Prince replied calmly. "Moreover, unlocking the secret chamber requires your Plum Blossom Mark on your wrist to cooperate with the Plum Blossom Token. Without you, it would be useless."
After a moment of hesitation, Nangong Shuang finally accepted the Plum Blossom Token. "Thank you, Your Highness."
