“Feng Yu has reappeared, and blood rain is imminent?” Nangong Shuang looked at him in confusion.
Bai Cao pondered for a moment. “The Feng Yu Pavilion is another organization opposed to the Shadow Pavilion, which once served the late emperor. Your mother was one of its members. Recently, there have been rumors that remnants of the Feng Yu Pavilion are reorganizing, signaling that a storm of bloodshed is about to arrive.”
“Mother was part of the Feng Yu Pavilion?” Nangong Shuang was taken aback.
“This is a long story; we can discuss it further when fate allows.” Bai Cao pushed open the door. “We must leave quickly; I sense someone is spying nearby.”
Nangong Shuang hurriedly bid farewell and exited the pharmacy through the back door. She navigated through several alleys, ensuring no one was following her before slowing her pace.
Reflecting on Bai Cao's words, Nangong Shuang felt a surge of emotions. The identities of her parents seemed far more complex than she had imagined. The Heavenly Fragrance Life-Extending Technique, Cold Poison Physique, Royal Bloodline... these seemingly unrelated matters were now intertwined, forming a massive enigma.
“I will master the Five Elements Heart-Devouring Poison Classic and then seek the Heavenly Fragrance Life-Extending Technique at Mei Ying Villa,” Nangong Shuang resolved silently. “Only by grasping these two secrets can I unravel the mystery of the Nangong Family's annihilation and avenge my parents!”
As she contemplated this, a sudden chill washed over her. She stopped alertly and scanned her surroundings.
At the end of the alley, a figure in black darted past and quickly vanished into the shadows. A tightness gripped Nangong Shuang's heart—someone was following her!
She quickened her pace and turned into a narrow alley. The footsteps behind her grew closer, clearly indicating that her pursuer had abandoned all pretense of stealth.
Nangong Shuang rounded a corner and abruptly halted, pressing herself against the wall. When her pursuer caught up, she struck swiftly, sending a silver needle precisely toward their throat!
The figure in black moved agilely, sidestepping just in time as the needle grazed past and embedded itself in the wall with a sharp clang.
“Impressive skills, young lady,” the figure in black sneered, their voice hoarse. “However, today you won’t escape.”
“Are you from the Shadow Pavilion?” Nangong Shuang asked coldly, already holding several more silver needles in her hand.
The figure paused in surprise. “You know about the Shadow Pavilion?”
“I know much more than that,” Nangong Shuang maintained her composure. “Did Zheng Yushi send you?”
“Zheng merely wishes to invite you back for a discussion,” the figure in black advanced slowly. “If you come with me willingly, you won’t be harmed.”
Nangong Shuang scoffed. “Just you alone?”
“Oh? Do you think I’m alone?” The figure suddenly waved their hand, revealing several assassins in black on the rooftops around them, all armed and with cold gazes.
Nangong Shuang's heart sank; she realized it would be difficult to escape today. She quickly weighed her options and decided to take the initiative.
“Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!” Three silver needles shot through the air, targeting vital points of three assassins. They were caught off guard; one was struck in the arm and collapsed instantly, while the other two were hit in their shoulders and slowed down.
“Excellent skills!” The leading figure in black praised. “No wonder you are of the Nangong Family bloodline.”
“Knowing my Nangong Family’s prowess yet daring to attack is truly foolish,” Nangong Shuang replied coldly as she calculated her escape route.
"Hahaha!" The man in black laughed heartily. "With such feeble skills, do you really think you can escape?"
With a wave of his hand, the remaining assassins lunged forward. Nangong Shuang knew she couldn't withstand them head-on, so she suddenly pulled out a small vial from her pocket and smashed it on the ground.
"Bang!"
A cloud of white smoke erupted, quickly filling the entire alley. The assassins were caught off guard, covering their mouths and noses as they coughed uncontrollably.
Seizing the opportunity, Nangong Shuang used her lightness skill to leap into the air, running along the walls and swiftly making her way to the rooftops to escape.
"After her!" The leading man in black shouted angrily, urging his subordinates to pursue relentlessly.
