Nangong Shuang said little as she took out silver needles and several medicinal herbs from her medicine pouch, beginning to administer acupuncture to Guo Chunyi to reduce her fever. Her technique was skilled and precise; each needle was placed perfectly. Soon, Guo Chunyi's breathing became steadier, and her complexion was no longer as purple.
"That's amazing!" Madam Guo exclaimed, watching her daughter's transformation in astonishment. "Acupuncture has such miraculous effects!"
Nangong Shuang humbly replied, "This only temporarily alleviates the symptoms. The real detoxification requires more herbs."
Before long, the steward returned with several servants, carrying various medicinal ingredients. Nangong Shuang examined them carefully and found that one crucial herb was missing.
"We still need Zi Shen; it's essential for counteracting the Purple Butterfly Poison," she stated.
Madam Guo asked anxiously, "Where can we buy it? I'll send someone right away!"
"Zi Shen is extremely rare; it's hard to find in ordinary pharmacies," Nangong Shuang explained. "However, I have a small amount with me that should be enough to prepare an antidote."
She took out a small porcelain vial from the depths of her medicine pouch and poured out a few deep purple pieces of the herb—indeed, it was Zi Shen. Madam Guo was immensely grateful. "Thank you for being so well-prepared!"
Nangong Shuang began to brew the medicine, her movements fluid and precise in proportioning the ingredients. After about half an hour, a bowl of fragrant medicinal liquid was ready. The liquid was deep purple, with a unique scent that combined the bitterness of herbs with a hint of something exotic.
"Please help Miss Guo sit up and slowly feed her this," Nangong Shuang instructed.
Madam Guo took it upon herself to carefully feed her daughter the medicine drop by drop. The effect of the medicine was swift; within a quarter of an hour, Guo Chunyi's complexion showed significant improvement—the bluish hue gradually faded, and her breathing became much steadier.
"It's working! It really works!" Madam Guo cried tears of joy. "Nangong Shuang, you have saved my daughter's life! The Guo Family will surely reward you handsomely!"
Madam Qian also sighed in relief, looking at Nangong Shuang with appreciation. "As expected of someone from the Qian Family; you are truly remarkable."
Nangong Shuang modestly replied, "Miss Guo has a good constitution and received timely treatment; she will recover quickly. However, we must keep watch tonight and administer the medicine every two hours for three doses to completely eliminate any residual poison."
Madam Guo nodded repeatedly. "I will follow all of Nangong Shuang's arrangements."
She turned to Madam Qian. "Sister Song, we will never forget today's kindness. With Nangong Shuang's exceptional medical skills, I would like to invite her to stay at our residence for a few more days—to care for Guan Chunyi and also to learn some medical knowledge from her."
Madam Qian smiled. "That’s no trouble at all. Nangong Shuang is here to help; it’s perfectly fine for her to stay a few days longer. However, I have household matters to attend to, so I must take my leave now."
The two ladies exchanged pleasantries before Madam Qian stood up to depart. Before leaving, she gave Nangong Shuang a meaningful glance. "Take good care of Miss Guo; do not let Madam Guo's trust go unfulfilled."
Nangong Shuang respectfully replied, "I will remember your words, Madam."
After Madam Qian left, the attitude of everyone in the Guo Residence toward Nangong Shuang became even more respectful. Madam Guo personally arranged a room adjacent to Guo Chunyi's for her and instructed the maidservants to prepare hot water and clean clothes—every detail was attended to.
By evening, Guo Chunyi could open her eyes; although still weak, she had escaped danger. She looked at Nangong Shuang with gratitude and softly said, "Thank you for saving my life, sister."
Nangong Shuang smiled gently. "Miss Guo need not be so polite; your recovery is what matters most."
She prepared the second dose of medicine and personally fed it to Guo Chunyi. Although Guo Chunyi grimaced at the bitterness of the medicine, she obediently finished it. After taking the medicine, she quickly fell into a deep sleep once again.
Madam Guo stood by the bedside, looking gratefully at Nangong Shuang. "You are so young, yet your medical skills are truly remarkable. It is rare to find such talent. May I ask which renowned physician you studied under?"
