Nangong Shuang looked at the porridge in the bowl, hesitating for a moment. Qiao Er, noticing her hesitation, immediately took a sip herself. "Sister, don't worry, I won't harm you."

A flicker of disappointment crossed Qiao Er's eyes, but she quickly nodded in agreement. "Yes, sister. But... where are you going? If you need anything, I am willing to assist."
After a moment's hesitation, Nangong Shuang decided to test Qiao Er's loyalty. "I am going to Meihua Villa to meet someone."
"Meihua Villa?" Qiao Er exclaimed in surprise. "Sister, are you going to meet the Young Master of the Xiao Family?"
Nangong Shuang's gaze sharpened. "How do you know?"
Qiao Er hurriedly explained, "Meihua Villa is a retreat for the Xiao Family, specifically used for receiving distinguished guests and conducting private meetings. If you go there, it may not be very safe."
Nangong Shuang scrutinized Qiao Er's expression and probed further. "You seem to know quite a bit about the Xiao Family?"

Nangong Shuang's heart sank; this aligned with what she knew. The invitation from Xiao Zhongyan likely concealed ulterior motives.
"What do you suggest?" Nangong Shuang asked.
After pondering for a moment, Qiao Er's eyes lit up. "I can disguise myself and infiltrate first to scout ahead. If anything seems off, I can notify you immediately."
Nangong Shuang felt a stir in her heart; this was indeed a good idea. Sending Qiao Er to scout would not only test her loyalty but also reduce her own risk.
"Alright, let's do that," Nangong Shuang agreed with a nod. "What preparations do you need?"
Qiao Er confidently replied, "I carry my disguise tools with me; I can transform into another person in just the time it takes to burn an incense stick. You need not worry; during my time at Jinyi Tower, I was responsible for gathering intelligence on the Xiao Family and am very familiar with the layout of Meihua Villa."
Nangong Shuang grew increasingly confident in Qiao Er's abilities but did not let her guard down completely. She detailed where Xiao Zhongyan had arranged to meet her and instructed Qiao Er on how to relay information.
Qiao Er listened carefully and suddenly recalled something, asking softly, "Sister, is this trip related to matters concerning the Nangong Family?"
Nangong Shuang's expression darkened. "Why do you ask that?"
"You have inquired about the Nangong Family multiple times and are now going to meet the Young Master of the Xiao Family..." Qiao Er said cautiously. "I was merely guessing; if I have offended you, please punish me."
Nangong Shuang paused for a moment, deciding to give Qiao Er some trust, though she would not fully open her heart. "I am indeed interested in the massacre of the Nangong Family and wish to uncover the truth."
A complex expression flickered in Qiao Er's eyes before she replied earnestly, "Regardless of your reasons for investigating, I am willing to offer my assistance. To be honest, I am also quite intrigued by that tragic event. Perhaps we can join forces to uncover the truth."
Nangong Shuang looked into Qiao Er's sincere gaze and nodded slightly. "I hope so. For now, you should go prepare. We will head to Meihua Villa before the hour of the rat."
