The man in black moved with remarkable agility, swiping his blade to deflect two silver needles, but the third one found its mark, piercing his wrist. He let out a muffled groan as his arm went numb, causing the dagger to clatter to the ground.
“Azure Jade Sealing Needle?!” The man in black stared in surprise at Nangong Shuang. “This is a secret weapon of the Nangong Family!”
Nangong Shuang did not respond; instead, she seized the opportunity to shoot two more silver needles, striking the man's knee and shoulder. He groaned again, collapsing to the ground, unable to move.
“Let’s go!” Nangong Shuang quickly returned to Xiao Zhongyan's side and used a silver needle to pry open the chains.
Xiao Zhongyan struggled to stand, his body swaying. “I’m afraid I can’t move quickly…”
“It’s alright, lean on me.” Nangong Shuang supported Xiao Zhongyan’s arm and helped him toward the door.
Just then, a sudden flurry of footsteps and shouts echoed from afar!
“Not good! We’ve been discovered!” Nangong Shuang felt a surge of anxiety and quickened her pace with Xiao Zhongyan.
But Xiao Zhongyan was severely injured and moved slowly. Just as they stepped out of the woodshed, they spotted a dozen men in black rushing toward them with torches!
“Nangong Shuang, you go ahead!” Xiao Zhongyan pushed her away. “I’ll hold them off!”
“No!” Nangong Shuang said firmly. “I came here to uncover the truth about the Nangong Family; I can’t leave you behind!”
With the men in black drawing closer, Nangong Shuang swiftly took out a small porcelain bottle from her pocket and poured out a few white pills. “Take this; it will temporarily restore your strength.”
Without hesitation, Xiao Zhongyan swallowed the pills. Moments later, his complexion flushed slightly, and his breath became noticeably stronger. “Is this… Hui Yang Dan?”
“It’s my improved formula,” Nangong Shuang explained briefly. “Its effects last only half an hour; we must hurry!”
Supporting each other, they ran toward the path leading to the back mountain. The sound of pursuing footsteps grew louder behind them.
Suddenly, a massive explosion erupted within the manor! In an instant, flames shot into the sky amidst a cacophony of screams.
“It’s Qiao Er!” Nangong Shuang immediately understood that Qiao Er had created this chaos to buy them time.
Sure enough, half of the pursuing men immediately diverted toward the explosion site, significantly easing their pressure.
Seizing the opportunity, they quickened their pace toward the back mountain. The path was rugged and difficult to navigate, but for Nangong Shuang, it was familiar terrain. She led Xiao Zhongyan through twists and turns, quickly shaking off most of their pursuers.
“There’s an ambush ahead!” Xiao Zhongyan suddenly whispered.
Indeed, shadows could be seen lurking among the trees ahead, stealthily closing in on them.
Nangong Shuang's heart sank—trapped between an ambush in front and pursuers behind, they found themselves in dire straits!
“Xiao Gongzi, do you trust me?” Nangong Shuang suddenly asked.
Xiao Zhongyan nodded without hesitation. "Trust."
"Good," Nangong Shuang said as she took out the last vial from her pocket. "This is Mihun San, which can create illusions. Once we rush in, I'll scatter the powder. At that moment, hold your breath, close your eyes, and follow my lead, understood?"
Xiao Zhongyan nodded again, taking a deep breath to prepare himself.
Nangong Shuang counted to three, and the two of them suddenly charged towards the ambush ahead. The shadows rejoiced and quickly surrounded them.
At the moment of contact, Nangong Shuang raised her hand sharply, releasing a cloud of white powder that quickly filled the air.
"Cover your mouth and nose!" someone shouted, but it was too late.
Wherever the powder settled, the cloaked figures fell into hallucinations—some screamed while clutching their heads, others swung their weapons wildly, and some collapsed to the ground in utter disarray.
Nangong Shuang grabbed Xiao Zhongyan's hand and, with her eyes closed, navigated through the chaotic crowd, heading straight for Back Mountain Path. She was already very familiar with this route; even with her eyes shut, she could discern the direction.
