"Father, why have you returned at this hour?" Guan Chunyi asked curiously.
Lord Guo sighed deeply. "I just heard at the yamen that there was an assassin who broke into our residence. How could I remain at ease? I hurried back to check on things. Thankfully, thanks to Nangong Shuang's vigilance, nothing serious happened."
He turned to Nangong Shuang with gratitude and said, "Nangong Shuang possesses remarkable medical skills and such insight; it is truly rare. I have ordered people to rigorously interrogate that assassin to uncover who is behind this."
Nangong Shuang bowed respectfully and replied, "You flatter me, my lord. I merely did what I ought to do."
Lord Guo waved his hand dismissively. "Nangong Shuang need not be so modest. I have always admired your talents and medical skills; seeing you today has only deepened my respect. It is somewhat embarrassing; I only have one daughter, Guan Chunyi. Although I have taught her poetry and propriety, it is difficult for a girl to delve deeply into scholarly pursuits. Nangong Shuang humbly responded, "I am but lacking in knowledge; I fear I cannot bear such a heavy responsibility. However, since you have shown me such favor, I will certainly do my utmost to teach Miss Guan well and live up to your expectations."
Lord Guo nodded appreciatively before changing the subject. "By the way, I just brought back several volumes of documents from the yamen that need organizing and archiving.
