The Black-Clothed Leader paused for a moment. "You know about the Shadow Pavilion?" he sneered. "It seems you know quite a bit. But the more you know, the quicker you'll die."
With that, he waved his hand, and several black-clad men lunged toward Nangong Shuang.
In a flash, Nangong Shuang shot out her silver needles like meteors, accurately hitting the acupoints of two black-clad men, causing them to freeze momentarily. At the same time, she pulled out her last pouch of powder from her sleeve and hurled it to the ground with force.
With a loud bang, the powder erupted into a blinding flash of light, accompanied by thick smoke that quickly enveloped the entire alley. The black-clad men were blinded by the bright light, covering their eyes and crying out in pain.
Seizing the opportunity, Nangong Shuang leaped up and climbed onto the wall. However, just as she was about to scale it, a hand suddenly reached from the other side and grabbed her wrist.
Nangong Shuang's heart raced: Did the enemy set an ambush on this route as well?
But the owner of that hand spoke softly, "It's me."
That voice—Xiao Zhongyan!
Nangong Shuang was overjoyed and quickly used his strength to flip over the wall. Indeed, on the other side stood Xiao Zhongyan, along with several guards from the Crown Prince's Mansion.
"What are you doing here?" Nangong Shuang asked in surprise.
Xiao Zhongyan replied quietly, "When I left Xiao Mansion, I noticed someone following your carriage, so I brought people along."
On the other side of the wall, the black-clad men had recovered from the blinding light and realized their prey had vanished. They let out furious roars, with some starting to climb over the wall in pursuit.
"Let's go!" Xiao Zhongyan grabbed Nangong Shuang's hand and quickly ran away. The guards from the Crown Prince's Mansion stayed behind to confront those who were scaling the wall.
The two of them dashed through several alleys until they arrived at a secluded courtyard. A sign hanging on the gate read "Qingfeng Pavilion," clearly marking it as the safe house Xiao Zhongyan had mentioned earlier.
Once inside, Xiao Zhongyan locked the door behind them and finally breathed a sigh of relief. "We’re safe now."
Nangong Shuang also exhaled deeply but then expressed her concern. "What about those guards..."
Xiao Zhongyan waved his hand dismissively. "There's no need to worry; they are elite from the Crown Prince's Mansion and more than capable of dealing with those black-clad men. Besides, their job is just to buy us time; they won't engage in a prolonged fight."
Nangong Shuang nodded and began to look around carefully. The Qingfeng Pavilion was simply decorated yet elegant, clearly a hidden retreat.
"This is my private residence; very few people know about it," Xiao Zhongyan explained. "You can rest here for now until things settle down before returning to Guo Residence."
Nangong Shuang looked at him gratefully. "Thank you again for saving me. Such a great favor; I don’t know how to repay you."
Xiao Zhongyan smiled slightly. "There's no need for thanks. Your father saved my life; this small matter is nothing in comparison." He paused before continuing, "However, those black-clad men were indeed after you; they clearly know your identity. It seems your situation has become increasingly dangerous."
Nangong Shuang sighed. "I didn't expect to be discovered so quickly. It looks like Xiao Xiang and the others have already begun their actions."
Xiao Zhongyan's brow furrowed tightly. "They are indeed plotting against the Crown Prince, and the Nangong Family Case is key to their plans. They fear that if it is retried, some unspeakable secrets will be revealed."
Nangong Shuang couldn't help but ask, "Young Master Xiao, do you know why they are so wary of the Nangong Family Case?"
Xiao Zhongyan pondered for a moment before slowly replying, "As far as I know, the Nangong Family Case involves secrets related to the Royal Bloodline.
