"Great!" Xiao Zhongyan exclaimed joyfully. "This medicine really works!"
Qiao Er nodded, "The Daoist said that this medicine can only temporarily suppress the poison, but cannot eradicate it. To completely detoxify, we need to refine the Nine-Turn Resurrection Pill."
Nangong Shuang looked at Qiao Er gratefully. "Thanks to you for bringing the pills in time; otherwise, I fear I wouldn't have lasted until the medicine was ready."
Qiao Er asked with concern, "Miss, how did you get poisoned? You were fine when I left."
Nangong Shuang briefly recounted the events of Zhang Quan and Li Fu's deaths and her own poisoning to Qiao Er. After hearing this, Qiao Er was shocked. "Such a vicious murderer! Miss, we must leave the capital quickly; it's too dangerous here!"
Nangong Shuang shook her head. "No, I must uncover the truth. The Nangong Family's vengeance must be avenged by my own hands!"
Just then, a guard hurried over to report, "Lord Xiao, the Crown Prince requests your presence. He says most of the medicinal materials have been gathered, and we can begin refining the antidote."
Xiao Zhongyan nodded. "Alright, I'll go right away." He turned to Nangong Shuang. "You should rest first. Once all the materials are prepared, I'll come back to help you with the refining."
However, Nangong Shuang insisted, "I will go too. Refining the Nine-Turn Resurrection Pill requires my guidance, and delaying it further is dangerous; we must start as soon as possible."
Seeing Nangong Shuang's determination, Xiao Zhongyan had no choice but to agree. The three of them followed the guard to a side courtyard of the Crown Prince's Mansion, where the tools and materials for refining had already been set up. The Crown Prince was waiting there and asked with concern upon seeing Nangong Shuang's weak appearance, "Miss Nangong, has your poisoning eased?"
Nangong Shuang bowed respectfully. "Thank you for your concern, Your Highness. I just took a pill that temporarily suppressed the poison, but to completely detoxify, we still need to refine the Nine-Turn Resurrection Pill."
The Crown Prince nodded. "The medicinal materials are nearly ready; only a few last ingredients are still being searched for." He pointed at various herbs laid out on the table. "These are all prepared according to your prescription; please check if they are suitable."
Nangong Shuang examined the herbs carefully; they mostly met her requirements but were still missing a few key ingredients: "The Thousand-Year Snow Lotus, Longan Incense, and Purple Gold Sand haven't been found yet?"
The Crown Prince shook his head. "These three herbs are extremely rare. I've sent people to search everywhere, but it's difficult to gather them all at once."
After pondering for a moment, Nangong Shuang said, "Purple Gold Sand can be replaced with Amethyst Powder; it will be slightly less effective but still usable. As for Longan Incense, perhaps it can be found in the palace's medicinal store. The most difficult one is the Thousand-Year Snow Lotus; it only grows on glaciers in the far north and is very hard to collect."
The Crown Prince contemplated this. "There is indeed Longan Incense in the palace's medicinal store; I've sent someone to retrieve it. As for the Thousand-Year Snow Lotus..." He suddenly recalled something. "It seems there is a specimen in the Chancellor's House that was obtained from an envoy from the Western Regions many years ago."
Xiao Zhongyan's expression changed: "The Thousand-Year Snow Lotus from the Chancellor's House? That could be problematic. The Chancellor disagrees with the Crown Prince politically and probably won't lend out such a precious herb easily."
The Crown Prince sighed. "Yes, especially after he learns that this medicine is for a descendant of the Nangong Family."
A determined glint flashed in Nangong Shuang's eyes. "No matter what, we must find a way to obtain the Thousand-Year Snow Lotus; otherwise, I won't be able to complete the antidote and my life may end here."
Xiao Zhongyan said firmly, "I'll go to the Chancellor's residence. The Chancellor has a good relationship with my father; perhaps out of that connection he will be willing to help."
The Crown Prince expressed his concerns: "This matter is dangerous; if the Chancellor finds out you are seeking medicine for a descendant of the Nangong Family, he may not only refuse assistance but could also harm you."
