Zhang Qiang took off his jacket and lay on the bed, turning his back to Li Jun. He thought the argument had ended there, that tomorrow he would send his wife and child back to their hometown, and everything would return to normal. But he was wrong. 0

Li Jun stood there motionless for an hour, holding her swollen cheek, the tears in her eyes long dried. Only one thought remained in her mind: "This man has ruined me, ruined this family; I cannot let him have it easy!" 0

The room was terrifyingly silent, save for the sound of Xiao Ming's sobs. Slowly, Li Jun walked toward the bathroom and saw the heavy ceramic lid on the toilet tank. In that moment, countless images flashed through her mind: the sweetness of meeting Zhang Qiang for the first time, the happiness of their wedding, the joy of giving birth to Xiao Ming... 0

But all those beautiful memories had been completely shattered by Zhang Qiang's words tonight. "Country bumpkin," "embarrassment," "not worthy of being my wife"—each word cut into her heart like a knife. 0

"Zhang Qiang, since you don't want me..." Li Jun summoned all her strength and lifted the heavy ceramic lid. 0

Hearing a noise from the bathroom, Zhang Qiang impatiently called out, "What are you doing? Hurry up and go to sleep!" 0

Those words ignited the fury within Li Jun. She burst out of the bathroom, charging at Zhang Qiang with the tank lid raised high. 0

"Go die!" 0

Bang! The ceramic lid struck hard against the back of Zhang Qiang's head. 0

"Ah!" he let out a painful scream as blood instantly gushed from his head. He clutched his head and spun around, staring at Li Jun in disbelief. 0

"You've gone mad!" Zhang Qiang's voice cracked with pain. 0

Li Jun's eyes were bloodshot. "You drove me to madness!" 0

She raised the ceramic lid again and brought it down towards Zhang Qiang's head. 0

"Li Jun! Stop!" Zhang Qiang tried to dodge, but the injury on his head slowed him down. 0

Bang! 0

The second strike landed on Zhang Qiang's temple, causing him to collapse onto the bed, blood staining the white sheets. 0

"Dad! Dad!" Xiao Ming was terrified by the bloody scene, crying out in anguish. 0

But Li Jun had completely lost her sanity. 0

"You said I was unsophisticated! You said I was embarrassing!" Li Jun shouted as she continued to strike, "You have a mistress outside and still dare to hit me!" 0

Bang! Bang! Bang! 0

The ceramic lid struck Zhang Qiang's head repeatedly, blood splattering everywhere. 0

Zhang Qiang's screams grew weaker until they finally faded into silence. 0

"Mom! Mom! Don't hit Dad!" Xiao Ming crawled over, tugging at Li Jun's clothes with his small hands. 0

That voice struck Li Jun like a thunderbolt. She looked at the ceramic lid in her hand, then at Zhang Qiang lying in a pool of blood, suddenly realizing what she had done. 0

"Zhang Qiang! Zhang Qiang!" She dropped the ceramic lid and rushed over to shake his body. "Wake up! Wake up!" 0

But Zhang Qiang would never wake up again. 0

"No! No! I didn't mean to!" Li Jun cried as she held her husband's lifeless body. "I was just so angry; I didn't really want to kill you!" 0

Xiao Ming huddled in the corner, too scared to move. He couldn't understand why his mom had hit his dad, why there was so much blood on his dad, or why his dad wasn't responding to him anymore. 0

The smell of blood filled the entire room. 0

Li Jun sat in the pool of blood, holding her husband's corpse, tears mixing with the blood as they flowed onto the floor. 0

"What have I done?" she cried out in agony. "What will happen to my child?" 0

Before long, a staff member from the inn heard the cries and discovered the horrific scene. 0

The police arrived quickly at the scene. 0

Li Jun did not resist or run away. She sat there dazed as they placed handcuffs on her wrists. 0

In the courtroom, Li Jun said only one sentence: "I regret it, but it's too late now." The judge ultimately sentenced Li Jun to death for the crime of intentional murder. 0

Epilogue 0

On a morning a year later, a prisoner transport vehicle made its way to the Execution Ground. Inside sat Li Jun, her eyes swollen and red, staring blankly out the window. 0

As they approached the Execution Ground, the convoy slowed down, traversing a bumpy dirt road. The jolting of the vehicle startled the dazed woman as if she had awakened from a dream. 0

She thought of her son, Xiao Ming, the poor child who had lost his parents. She recalled that bloody night and the family she had destroyed with her own hands. 0

"If I could do it all over again, I would never do this," she silently told herself. "But there are no chances left." 0

The law showed no mercy. With a dull gunshot, this woman paid with her life to atone for her sins. 0

There is no remedy for regret in this world; some mistakes, once made, can never be undone. 0
