Twelve years, a full twelve years! 0
He had lived in this house like a dog for twelve years, and what had he gained? Disdain, betrayal, and utter humiliation! 0
They not only wanted to drive him away but also to strip him of his rights as a father, leaving him with nothing. 0
"I can't go on like this," Jia Mingdai clenched his fists, a glint of madness flashing in his eyes. 0
He walked into the kitchen and saw the knife, the one usually used for chopping vegetables. 0
"Today, I will use it for one last thing." Jia Mingdai picked up the knife. 0
At eleven o'clock at night, the whole family was asleep. 0
Jia Mingdai quietly pushed open the door to his in-laws' room. 0
Moonlight streamed through the window, illuminating the faces of the two elderly people. They were deep in sleep, completely unaware of the danger approaching. 0
"Twelve years, you have humiliated me for twelve years," Jia Mingdai stood by the bed with the knife in hand, his voice soft yet filled with hatred. 0
His mother-in-law, Old Lady Guo, seemed to sense something and groggily opened her eyes. 0
"Who?" She saw the shadow standing by the bed and instinctively tried to sit up. 0
"It’s me, your good son-in-law," Jia Mingdai said with a cold smile. 0
"Jia Mingdai? What do you want in the middle of the night?" Old Lady Guo was fully awake now; upon seeing the knife in his hand, she exclaimed, "Are you crazy?" 0
"Crazy?" Jia Mingdai laughed loudly, "Yes, I’m crazy! Driven mad by you all!" 0
"What do you want? Put down that knife!" His father-in-law, Old Guo, also woke up and saw what was happening. 0
Before Old Guo could even shout out a warning, tragedy struck. 0
Jia Mingdai acted swiftly; the two elderly people barely had a chance to resist before they fell into a pool of blood. 0
"Finally, I don’t have to listen to your humiliation anymore," he said calmly as he looked at the two lifeless bodies on the bed. 0
Next was his wife. 0
Jia Mingdai pushed open the bedroom door; Guo Xiaofang was still asleep. 0
"Xiaofang, wake up," he gently nudged his wife. 0
"Hmm? What is it?" Guo Xiaofang opened her eyes groggily. 0

"I want to say something to you." Jia Mingdai sat on the edge of the bed. 0

"What is it? Hurry up, I have to get up early tomorrow," Guo Xiaofang replied, not noticing the knife hidden behind Jia Mingdai's back. 0

"I want to ask you, over these twelve years, have you ever loved me? Even just a little?" Jia Mingdai's voice was calm. 0

Guo Xiaofang paused for a moment, then sneered, "Love you? Jia Mingdai, you really think too highly of yourself. If I hadn't been blind back then, would I have married someone like you?" 0

There was no emotion in Jia Mingdai's eyes. "Since you look down on me so much, then go be with your parents." 0

"No! Help! No!" Guo Xiaofang struggled desperately, but it was too late. 0

As Jia Mingdai stood at the children's bedroom door, his hands trembled. 0

"I'm sorry, kids," Jia Mingdai said through tears. "But they won't let you be my children. Since that's the case, let's go with your mother." 0

Then, five kilometers away, Bai Miao Village welcomed death as well. 0

Jia Mingdai drove his family's tricycle to his sister-in-law Guo Xiaolan's house. 0

That same woman who looked down on him, the one who always said he was unworthy of her sister. 0

"Since you all think I'm worthless, then let's die together," Jia Mingdai pushed open the door to Guo Xiaolan's home. 0

Guo Xiaolan was watching television when she saw the blood-soaked Jia Mingdai burst in, scaring her out of her wits. "Jia Mingdai? What happened to you? Why are you covered in blood?" 0

"This is the blood of your Guo family," Jia Mingdai said calmly. 0

"You've gone mad!" Guo Xiaolan tried to run away, but Jia Mingdai was quicker. 0

His eleven-year-old nephew Li Xiaowei (pseudonym) heard the commotion and ran out, crying in terror at the sight: "Mom! Mom!" 0

"I'm sorry, kid," Jia Mingdai looked at his nephew with tears streaming down his face. "But not a single one of your Guo family can be spared." 0

Finally, when the police arrived at the scene, Jia Mingdai had already laid down the butcher's knife. 0

He sat in the yard, gazing at the starry sky, a hint of relief on his face. 0

The police placed handcuffs on Jia Mingdai. 0

As he was taken away, he glanced back at the village that had caused him twelve years of pain and felt an unprecedented sense of ease in his heart. 0

He no longer had to endure that humiliation. 0

He no longer had to be a dog in that house. 0

Although the cost was seven lives and his own remaining years, for the man who had been suppressed for twelve years, this might be the only way he could think of to find relief. 0

The night in Shuangzhong Village returned to tranquility, but this bloody tragedy left everyone with profound reflections: what does the institution of "marriage into the woman's family" truly mean in traditional rural society? What are the consequences when a man's dignity is completely trampled upon? Perhaps the answer to this question is inscribed on those seven cold bodies. 0
