The journey from Fushun to Jilin, over 400 kilometers long, was marked by an almost complete silence between Lin Qiang and Liu Qing. As they drew closer to their destination, Lin Qiang's emotions began to unravel.
“How long have you two been together?” Lin Qiang suddenly asked.
Liu Qing remained silent.
“I’m talking to you! How long have you two been together?” Lin Qiang's voice rose sharply.
“We're not together,” Liu Qing replied, forcing the words out.
Lin Qiang scoffed. “If you’re not together, why would you run all the way to Jilin for her? If you’re not together, why would you willingly accompany me on this trip?”
Knowing that further explanation would be futile, Liu Qing simply shut her mouth. However, this silence only fueled Lin Qiang’s anger further.
“Do you think staying quiet will let you off the hook?” Lin Qiang's fists clenched tightly. “Let me tell you, this isn’t over!”
Amidst the tense atmosphere, they arrived in Jilin.
Ma Li’s home was an ordinary residential complex. When she saw her husband and lover standing at the door, her face instantly turned pale.
“Lin Qiang...” Chen Li’s voice trembled.
“Oh, so you remember I’m your husband?” Lin Qiang sneered at her. “I thought you had forgotten by now.”
“I... I just...” Chen Li attempted to explain but was abruptly cut off by Lin Qiang.
“Enough with the nonsense! Pack your things and come home with me!” Lin Qiang commanded.
Chen Li glanced at Liu Qing, fear evident in her eyes. She knew what awaited her upon returning, but in this situation, she had no choice.
Soon after, the three of them set off on their return journey.
At 7 PM that evening, the train slowly departed from Jilin Station. The three were assigned to the same soft sleeper compartment, and the enclosed space quickly became a powder keg.
For the first half hour, the compartment remained relatively calm. Chen Li sat by the window, silently watching the scenery blur past outside. Liu Qing sat across from her, stealing glances at her from time to time.
Lin Qiang sat by the door, watching the two of them like a guard. As the roar of the train grew louder, the oppressive atmosphere finally reached a breaking point.
"Look at you two, what a perfect match," Lin Qiang began his provocation. "One is a shameless woman betraying her husband, and the other is a bastard breaking up someone else's family."
"What are you talking about?" Liu Qing could no longer hold back.
"What am I talking about? I'm speaking the truth!" Lin Qiang stood up. "I work hard outside to support my family while you two are behind my back engaging in these disgraceful affairs!"
"It's not what you think..." Liu Qing tried to argue.
"Not what I think? Then what is it?" Lin Qiang's voice grew louder. "Did you not seduce my wife? Did you not have an affair?"
The temperature in the carriage seemed to rise sharply as the anger of the two men began to spiral out of control.
"Can you stop talking like that?" Liu Qing shot back, equally furious. "Chen Li is a person with feelings too. Do you know how lonely she is when you're away for a year?"
"Lonely gives her the right to cheat? Lonely gives her the right to betray?" Lin Qiang exploded. "Why do I go on business trips? Isn’t it for this family? And what happens? The moment I leave, you two get together!"
"Enough!" Liu Qing suddenly stood up. "What right do you have to criticize others here? Do you even know what kind of husband you are?"
Lin Qiang sneered, "At least I have never betrayed my marriage!"
Liu Qing refused to back down. "Do you know how much she needs care?"
The two men became increasingly agitated, their voices rising higher and higher. The cramped carriage was filled with tension, like a bomb ready to explode at any moment.
Chen Li sat aside, watching the two men before her, feeling a mix of emotions. One was her husband, and the other was her lover, but now they were ready to fight over her.
"You've disrupted my family; don’t think you'll have it easy!" Lin Qiang roared at Liu Qing.
Those words were like the last straw that completely shattered Liu Qing's rational defenses. He remembered the dagger hidden on him. Slowly, Liu Qing's hand reached toward the inside of his clothing.
