At 3 AM on July 23rd, the silence in Li Zheng's home was eerie.
In the living room, two cardboard boxes were neatly placed on the table. One was labeled "Hebei Crystal Pear," and the other "Olive Chrysanthemum Incense."
As a professional embalmer, he was well-versed in human anatomy. Years of experience had made him intimately familiar with every joint and bone, and he knew exactly which tools were most suitable for the task at hand.
In just an hour, he had successfully packed the boxes.
Li Zheng sat on the sofa, gazing at the two boxes, his emotions a complex mix that was hard to articulate. He felt a thrill from his successful revenge but was also anxious about what lay ahead.
"The deed is done; now I need to figure out how to tie up loose ends," Li Zheng took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.
How to dispose of the body was the most challenging problem. The body couldn't remain in his home or be discarded carelessly; otherwise, it would be easily discovered. Moreover, with today's technology, as long as there was a body, the police could quickly uncover the truth.
Li Zheng lit a cigarette and took a deep drag, the smoke swirling in the darkness.
"I need to make sure the police find no clues, no evidence, not even the crime scene," he said slowly. "The best approach is to dispose of the body in another location, ideally somewhere with good transportation and high foot traffic."
He pulled out a map and carefully studied the terrain around Hubei. After much consideration, he focused on Linxiang Train Station.
"Linxiang is located at the intersection of Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi provinces, with a large flow of people every day. Disposing of the body there would significantly increase the difficulty for the police if they were to discover it."
The plan gradually took shape in Li Zheng's mind, each detail meticulously thought out. The journey from Jia Yu to Linxiang Train Station was about 300 kilometers and required several transfers; this would effectively confuse any pursuit and make it difficult for the police to track his movements.
At 5 AM, Li Zheng began to execute his plan. He first loaded the two boxes onto his bicycle and rode towards the dormitory area near the Post Office in Yu Yue Town, Jia Yu County. This location had been carefully chosen as his first pickup point—close enough to home but not directly revealing his address.
At 5:30 AM, Li Zheng waited near the Post Office for his first taxi.
The driver was a middle-aged man in his fifties, looking quite plain.
"Master, to Chibi City, Hebei Avenue, Agricultural Bank," Li Zheng said casually.
"Alright, get in," the driver, Wu, helped him load the two cardboard boxes into the trunk and back seat.
Inside the car, Li Zheng acted naturally, even chatting with the driver about the weather for a few moments.
At 6:10, the taxi arrived at the entrance of Chibi City Agricultural Bank.
Li Zheng paid the fare, took out the boxes, and waited for the next car outside the bank.
A few minutes later, another taxi pulled up in front of him.
The driver, Tu Mo, noticed the elderly man carrying two boxes and asked, "Where to, sir?"
"To Linxiang Train Station," Li Zheng replied.
"Got it, hop in."
As they drove towards Linxiang, Li Zheng's anxiety grew.
"Once I take care of these things, I can finally put this matter behind me," he thought to himself. "Who could possibly prove that Sun Yan's disappearance is connected to me?"
At 7:10, the taxi arrived at Linxiang Train Station.
Li Zheng got out and walked toward the entrance with the two cardboard boxes in hand.
