"Wang Jiu, I... I don't know how to play cards."
The room erupted in laughter, and Wang Jiu Ye laughed so hard that his shoulders shook.
"Who said you had to play? We just need a table."
"Get down." Scar Liu didn't wait for my reaction and pressed down on my shoulders, forcing me to kneel on the ground.
"Stretch out your arms and legs, keep your back straight."
It was then that I realized what they meant. They wanted me to be a human table.
A few men started playing cards, and the sound of the cards slapping against my back was particularly crisp.
After several rounds, my knees were already aching so much that I could barely hold on, and the muscles in my back began to twitch.
Staying in one position for too long made my body uncontrollably tremble.
"Why is this table shaking?" VIP Customer complained.
Scar Liu kicked my waist with his foot. "Be still."
I bit down hard on my lip and endured until dawn finally broke, and the game came to an end.
Wang Jiu Ye stood up, accompanied the guests out, and casually tossed over a line: "Alright, get lost."
I could no longer hold myself up and collapsed onto the floor.
After a long while, I managed to stand up, limping as I walked out of the club. The thought of having to come back for six consecutive days left me feeling numb.
My knees were killing me, and as I walked slowly toward the station, I noticed two tails following me from behind.
Wang Jiu Ye was afraid I would run away.
I pretended not to notice anything and continued to take the bus, get off, and stroll toward Old Electric Street.
Just then, beyond those two tails, I suddenly sensed another gaze—completely different from theirs.
The feeling was strange, as if I were being watched by some wild beast, and the hairs on my body stood on end. My heart sank: "The Turkey Vulture has arrived."
For the next two days, I continued my normal routine, visiting my sister at the hospital every day. However, each time I passed the nurses' station, I couldn't help but glance at the new nurse. It had been three days, and every time I came in, she just happened to be on duty, often passing by my sister's room with a casual air. It was too coincidental.
This little nurse was most likely an informant placed in the hospital by the Turkey Vulture. It seemed that top assassins were meticulous in their reconnaissance.
That afternoon, after completing a business deal, I used the commission I had just received to buy some food. As I walked back to my apartment building, someone called out to me.
"Lin Xue!"
I turned around to see an unfamiliar police officer approaching. My first instinct was to run. But after just a couple of steps, I noticed another young officer had already cut off my escape route, grinning at me.
"Hey there, officer, is there some kind of misunderstanding?"
"We'll discuss the details at the station. Come with us."
Fifteen minutes later, I found myself sitting in the interrogation room of the district police station. The two officers sat across from me; the older one opened a folder.
"Lin Xue, female, 24 years old, unemployed."
After reading my basic information, he looked up. "Someone reported you for suspected involvement in organizing prostitution. How do you explain that?"
"Officer, it's really a misunderstanding. I only occasionally help people find jobs; I've never engaged in anything illegal."
"Finding jobs? What kind of job requires secrecy? What kind of job only introduces young women to male clients?"
"Not so fast..." The young officer raised his hand to interrupt me. "Do you know you've been reported? The complainant is named Zhao Er. He claims that you have repeatedly introduced him to participate in illegal sex trades and have collected fees from it."
