Long Xi looked at Su Yuntang, making her feel a bit uneasy. After a moment, he nodded and said, "I will find a way to look into it."
That night, Su Yuntang heard Long Xi tossing and turning on the soft couch. She secretly opened her eyes to see him glancing her way from time to time, seemingly quite worried.
For some reason, Su Yuntang felt a warmth in her heart, reminiscent of the white cloud cake her sister used to make for her when she was young.
Two days later, Long Xi somehow managed to bring Old Physician Xu to her.
Old Physician Xu was around sixty years old, with graying hair and beard, dressed in a long blue robe, carrying a black lacquered medicine box on his back.
Upon entering, he first greeted Su Yuntang and then sat down by the bed. "Second Young Mistress, I heard you have not been feeling well. What symptoms do you have?"
Su Yuntang cleared her throat, her voice somewhat hoarse. "Thank you for coming, Old Xu. I have been feeling dizzy and fatigued these past few days, as if my head is filled with glue, heavy and muddled. My chest feels tight, making it hard to breathe. Nights are especially difficult; when I lie down, I feel anxious. After finally falling asleep, I wake up in a sweat from the heat."
She paused for a moment, her face slightly flushed. "My appetite has also been poor; I don't want to eat anything I see and sometimes feel nauseous. What worries me most is that my monthly cycle has been delayed by almost ten days."
Old Physician Xu listened attentively while nodding. He took out a pulse pillow from his medicine box. "Let me check your pulse first."
Su Yuntang extended her right hand onto the pulse pillow while Old Physician Xu placed three fingers on her wrist and closed his eyes in concentration.
After a long while, he opened his eyes with a slight frown. He switched to his other hand and examined her pulse carefully for a moment, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes.
"Old Xu, is my condition serious?"
Su Yuntang felt a bit anxious; did this physician suspect she was feigning illness?
Old Physician Xu withdrew his hand with a complex expression. "Second Young Mistress, your pulse does indicate weakness but also seems peculiar." He paused for a moment. "It appears as if you have taken some medication."
Su Yuntang's heart skipped a beat, but she feigned confusion. "I did take some medicine I prescribed myself; they are just common formulas for replenishing qi and blood."
"Hmm." Old Physician Xu nodded. "However, these symptoms are not difficult to treat."
Long Xi asked from the side, "How should she be treated?"
"You need proper care and must avoid overexertion," Old Physician Xu replied as he took out brush and paper from his medicine box. "I will write you a prescription."
Seeing him prepare to write a prescription, Su Yuntang quickly interjected, "Old Xu, I've heard that your medical skills are exceptional and that you once treated the former Eldest Young Mistress's health issues. What method did you use back then? If my symptoms are similar, could we use that prescription?"
Old Physician Xu's expression changed slightly as he tightened his grip on the brush. "Who told you that, Second Young Mistress?"
"Just some of the old maids in the manor mentioned it during their conversations," Su Yuntang blinked innocently. "They said the Former Young Lady had always been frail but that you treated her and even specially prepared Medicine Tea for her with great results."
Old Physician Xu's face turned pale as he hurriedly waved his hand. "That is not true! Absolutely not! I have never prepared any special Medicine Tea for the Eldest Young Mistress!"
Su Yuntang pretended to be puzzled. "But the maids spoke so specifically about it and said that Medicine Tea was quite miraculous..."
