After two days of careful nursing, Su Yuntang's high fever finally subsided. Although her complexion was still somewhat pale, her almond-shaped eyes regained their sparkle, and she was able to support herself on the edge of the bed and slowly get up to walk around.
Seeing her improved condition, Madam Tai immediately urged, "Since the fever has gone down, you should set off for Xi Xia Mountain Villa today. This place is too noisy; it can't compare to the tranquility of Xi Xia Mountain Villa."
On the afternoon before their departure, Long Xi entered Lord Long's study alone.
"Father." Long Xi respectfully bowed, "Have there been any developments regarding the fire that night?"
Lord Long's eyes bore the shadows of sleepless nights, clearly indicating that he had been preoccupied with investigating the fire. He set down his brush and rubbed his temples.
"The steward has already sent people to thoroughly investigate Guiyun Courtyard, even checking every piece of charred wood. So far, there have been no substantial findings. However... this incident is certainly not an accident. I have secretly dispatched reliable personnel to continue the investigation. Rest assured, we will provide you with an explanation."
"Thank you, Father."
"Going to Xi Xia Mountain Villa is just right; it will keep you away from this place of turmoil and allow Qing Xi to recuperate properly." Lord Long picked up his brush again. "If you need anything, just send someone to let me know."
In the afternoon, two blue cloth-covered carriages slowly rolled out of the vermilion gates of Longfu. The front carriage held Liu Mama, Li Fu, and two rough servants, while the back carriage was reserved for Long Xi and Su Yuntang.
Su Yuntang leaned against the soft cushions of the carriage, lifting the embroidered orchid curtain to gaze at the gradually receding grand estate. Hong Xiu and Lu Ao sat beside her on either side.
The carriage jolted along the cobblestone streets; as they traveled further from the city, the air grew increasingly fresh.
About an hour later, Lu Ao suddenly pointed excitedly ahead. "Second Young Mistress, look! That must be Xi Xia Mountain Villa!"
Following her finger, Su Yuntang looked up to see distant mountains like indigo shadows and near waters like a mirror. Amidst a sea of greenery, several courtyards with white walls and blue tiles were scattered harmoniously.
This place lacked the grandeur of Longfu's ornate architecture but possessed a unique elegance and charm.
The carriage came to a gradual stop in front of Xi Xia Mountain Villa, where a steward and several servants had been waiting for some time. They quickly approached and efficiently began unloading their luggage.
Long Xi stepped down first and then carefully supported Su Yuntang's arm, concerned that she might not yet be fully recovered.
"Greetings, Second Young Master and Second Young Mistress!" A dozen servants bowed in unison.
The steward of Xi Xia Mountain Villa was a middle-aged man in his forties with a kind face, dressed in a faded but tidy blue short shirt. He respectfully stepped forward. "I am Luo Xi, appointed by Madam Tai to manage this estate. The villa has been prepared for your arrival; please take a look."
Su Yuntang surveyed her surroundings and took a deep breath of the crisp air.
"This place is truly wonderful." It was Long Xi's first visit to Xi Xia Mountain Villa; as he gazed at the idyllic scenery before him, his taut nerves began to relax.
Luo Xi beamed as he led them through the courtyard gates. "Please follow me; I will introduce you to our estate."
Though not as grand as Longfu, Xi Xia Mountain Villa was intricately designed and charmingly laid out. The main courtyard was divided into three sections: the first section featured a flower hall for receiving guests and a study for books; the second section served as daily living quarters with a tea room and embroidery room; while the third section contained sleeping quarters for rest.
The entire courtyard was connected by a corridor, with a stream flowing through the center and a small hot spring set aside. What caught Su Yuntang's eye the most was a patch of medicinal herbs in the corner of the garden.
