Ma Yuqiang nearly choked on his milk when he heard that.
"Why are you asking about this all of a sudden?"
I replied excitedly, "Li Shan told me that the company has a new policy. Employees who have worked for five years can apply for an interest-free loan of eight hundred thousand."
"I just hit five years, so getting that would relieve a lot of pressure."
Ma Yuqiang was clearly intrigued, and I urged him to quickly find the property deed.
He hesitated for a moment before pulling out a red property deed from his briefcase.
I was stunned; he actually carried the property deed with him?
Noticing my surprise, Ma Yuqiang awkwardly rubbed his nose and said, "I need it for something in the next few days."
I smiled and took the property deed from him. He hesitated noticeably as he handed it over.
When I opened the deed and saw the names listed, my entire body froze.
The property deed had Ma Yuqiang's name along with his parents', but mine was conspicuously absent.
My hand trembled as I pointed at Ma Yuqiang, my voice shaking: "What is going on here?"
Ma Yuqiang stammered, "My parents contributed three hundred thousand, so..."
Fury surged within me: "Well, my parents also contributed three hundred thousand. By your logic, shouldn't their names be on it too?"
Ma Yuqiang stiffened his neck and replied, "That’s not how it works. You're marrying me; this house naturally belongs to the Ma family."
I let out a cold laugh and stared at Ma Yuqiang, asking:
"What about me? I’ve put in over five hundred thousand, yet my name isn’t even on it!"
Ma Yuqiang rolled his eyes and plastered a smile on his face to placate me.
"Oh, dear, I asked about it. They said since we’re married, it doesn’t matter whether your name is on it or not; you still have half of it anyway."
He pulled me down to sit, feigning concern.
"Don’t be angry; you’re pregnant, and your health is the most important thing."
I sighed inwardly. At this point, arguing was pointless; I needed to think of a solution instead.
I suppressed my anger and turned to head into the bedroom.
Ma Yuqiang shamelessly followed me.
"Sweetheart, hurry up and ask how to apply for that interest-free loan."
I replied curtly that I would ask today.
Once he left, I immediately contacted Li Shan.
When Li Shan saw the property certificate, she exploded.
"That jerk Ma Yuqiang! You’ve already been wronged enough marrying him, and now he’s pulling this kind of trick!"
I sent her a screenshot from WeChat, and she got even angrier, saying she wanted to find someone to beat him up.
I quickly stopped her.
"Hitting him won’t help. I consulted a lawyer; his parents' names are on the property certificate without any agreed shares. Even if I can prove I contributed money, his parents can still take at least half."
Li Shan gritted her teeth in frustration.
"Tian Tian, listen to me. If worse comes to worst, just forget about that money. You can live in my house for as long as you want. Or I can have my brother give you a unit when he develops a new community; you can pay it back slowly—there’s no rush."
"Either way, we can’t let Ma Yuqiang get away with this; he shouldn’t expect to keep his job either. I’ll make sure he suffers."
Li Shan was a little rich second generation; her dad was in real estate. Although the company wasn’t very big, they were still quite well-off. Her brother managed the company while she worked as a flight attendant just to fulfill a childhood dream, rarely flying—maybe once a month at most.
We joined the company at the same time and hit it off due to our similar personalities, so we had a great relationship.
I knew Li Shan was sincere, but I couldn’t just accept her help without reason.
I do not covet other people's money, but I cannot allow someone like Ma Yuqiang to take advantage of the hard-earned money I've made. I shared my thoughts with Li Shan.
