The weather was nice that Saturday, and I dragged him out for a shopping trip. He initially didn't want to go, but after my persistent coaxing, he reluctantly agreed, probably not wanting me to sense anything amiss. However, he spent the entire time glued to his phone. I made an excuse to go to the restroom, but in reality, I was retrieving a surprise I had prepared for him—a gaming laptop. 0

He looked at me in surprise as I handed him the bag containing the laptop. "I noticed you weren't in a good mood, and since your computer needed an upgrade, I got this for you," I said with a smile. 0

He pulled me into his arms and whispered in my ear, "Guan Yue, it's so good to have met you." I leaned against him, but the smile on my face faded instantly, leaving only numbness and disgust. 0

Perhaps because of the laptop, Zhou Wei's attitude towards me improved slightly; at least he wasn't as cold as before. He would sit with me in the living room watching TV—usually, I was watching while he chatted on his phone. 0

That evening, after finishing his shower, he glanced at his phone and told me he would be going out with his college roommates the next day. I smiled and said okay, then transferred him a thousand yuan, reminding him, "Drink less; if you really overdo it, just call me." 0

He looked a bit dazed for a moment before walking up to me and kissing my forehead. He ruffled my hair and said, "Got it. Thanks, babe. Once I find a job, I'll take you out for a big meal." I responded with a smile. 0

As soon as he went into his room, my smile vanished. I grabbed a tissue to wipe the spot where he had just kissed me. I was starting to dislike his touch; it made me uncomfortable. 0

Both Zhou Wei and I had just graduated from university and hadn't started job hunting yet. My family had arranged a job for me, but I didn't want to rely on them and sent out my own resumes instead. I applied to several large companies; some went unanswered while others led to interviews, but I was rejected due to lack of experience. 0

As for Zhou Wei, I had brought up the topic of work with him a few times, but he always brushed me off. Fortunately, I had been earning some income from writing—sometimes over ten thousand yuan during good times and a stable five thousand during leaner periods—so I'd saved quite a bit since school. 0

Zhou Wei still relied on his family for living expenses; his parents were quite indulgent with him. During college, he received four thousand yuan a month, which increased to five thousand after graduation. I've heard that his parents plan to support him until he gets married. 0

To be honest, hearing that left a bitter taste in my mouth. It felt somewhat unreasonable for a grown man to still depend on his family after graduation. 0

Zhou Wei was indeed extravagant with his spending, leaving little left at the end of each month, and sometimes he even had to rely on me for support. 0

The next day, Zhou Wei had drunk quite a bit. His roommate, Chen Zhixuan, sent me his location so I could pick him up. When Chen Zhixuan handed him over to me, he looked hesitant, as if he wanted to say something but held back. 0

Finally, he glanced at the inebriated Zhou Wei and spoke up, “Guan Yue, since you’re Zhou Wei’s girlfriend, I think you should know about this.” 0

I struggled a bit under Zhou Wei’s weight and replied, “Go ahead.” 0

Chen Zhixuan’s expression turned awkward. “Zhou Wei has been drunkenly mumbling about someone named Yu Lan. I know her; she was a classmate in high school—she’s kind of his first love.” 0

Noticing my expression change, Chen Zhixuan quickly added, “But Zhou Wei has said that he forgot about her after being with you. I don’t know what’s going on this time.” 0

His voice trailed off. 0

Seeing that I was nearly unable to hold up Zhou Wei any longer, he urged me, “If he keeps mentioning that name, don’t take it to heart. It’s all in the past; you two have always had a good relationship. It’s not worth arguing over.” 0

I felt a pang of bitterness in my heart but maintained a smile on my face, though there was a hint of coldness in my eyes. “Don’t worry; I’m not unreasonable.” 0

Chen Zhixuan visibly relaxed upon hearing this. He helped me get Zhou Wei into the car and offered a few more reminders before leaving. 0
