Qin Qin sent a photo, in which my husband and his mistress were walking into a hotel together. At that moment, I was preparing baby food for my ten-month-old daughter. When I saw the photo, I nearly dropped the bowl in my hand, completely stunned. 0

True to her nature as my best friend, Qin Qin immediately pressed the call button to report my husband for cheating, insisting that this was the only way to resolve the situation once and for all. Little did I know that this one phone call would completely change my life. 0

“Chen Man, check your phone!” Qin Qin's call came in, her voice urgent, prompting me to look at my phone right away. I held my daughter's insulated bowl in one hand and a spoon in the other while she cried in my arms. But hearing Qin Qin's anxious tone made me put down the spoon and pull out my phone. 0

The moment I opened it, a chill ran through me, and it felt as if my daughter's cries had vanished. On the screen, my husband was intimately entering a hotel with a woman dressed provocatively. 0

Immediately after, Qin Qin sent a voice message, her anger palpable: “Chen Man, that bastard Wang Hui is cheating! Where are you? I'm coming to find you!” The bowl in my hand fell to the floor with a sharp clatter, startling my daughter even more, causing her to cry even louder. 0

Snapping back from my shock, I quickly held her close to comfort her. Ten minutes later, Qin Qin burst in like a whirlwind, her face filled with fury: “Chen Man, Wang Hui is with another woman! We can't let him get away with this!” 0

I sat on the sofa holding my daughter, unsure of what to say. “Listen to me,” she urged. “Call the police and report him. They can take them away. They don’t have a marriage certificate; it’s just an illegal relationship. With the police report in hand, you can have complete control over Wang Hui.” 0

Seeing that I was unresponsive, she took my phone and dialed the police herself. 0

After the call connected, Qin Qin shouted into the phone, "I want to report that someone is illegally renting a room at Baiyun Hotel. Please send the police immediately." 0

Having said that, she pulled me towards the door. "Look at you right now; you look like a jilted wife. Let's go to the police station and wait. As long as Wang Hui gets arrested, you'll have evidence in hand, and he’ll have to listen to you from now on." 0

"Qin Qin, I don’t understand. Our relationship has always been good, and we have a child together. How could he cheat?" 0

Qin Qin dragged me into the elevator, which was so bright in this upscale community that it reflected our images. Hearing my words, she glanced back at me, and that look left me feeling utterly ashamed. 0

In the elevator's reflection, I saw myself as a greasy housewife—my hair was disheveled, and there were milk stains on my clothes. At that moment, it felt like I had been struck by a heavy blow. When did I become like this? 0

We arrived at the police station to wait for news, but instead of hearing that Wang Hui had been arrested, we received a thunderbolt of information. 0

"Hello, are you Wang Hui's wife? Wang Hui has fallen from Baiyun Hotel and is currently being treated at First People's Hospital." 0

Wang Hui fell? This news hit me like a bolt from the blue. Qin Qin immediately drove me to the hospital. 0

When we got there, I learned that after receiving the report, the police had rushed to the hotel. To evade them, Wang Hui climbed onto the air conditioning unit outside the window but lost his footing and fell. 0

I stood with my daughter outside the operating room when a wave of dizziness washed over me. My mother-in-law hurriedly arrived and slapped me hard across the face. 0

"You jinx! My son ended up like this because of you!" 0

How did she know I was the one who reported it? 0

"If it weren't for you marrying my son, how could he have fallen from that hotel?" 0

"Not only did you give birth to a worthless child, but now you're also bringing misfortune to my son. You’re truly a harbinger of doom!" 0

The mother-in-law's eyes were red like a crazed beast, her yellowed nails leaving bloody scratches on my back, causing me to tremble in pain. A wave of exhaustion washed over me; if she knew I was the one who called the police, it was certain that Wang Hui would have fallen down the stairs, and we would have ended up fighting right there. Holding my daughter, I found it impossible to engage with her. 0
