My mother-in-law saw my pale face and assumed I was worried about Wang Hui, which is why she stopped arguing. 0

She plopped down on the floor, wailing about her misfortunes, claiming that her life was hard and that her son’s was even harder. In her eyes, their family was the unluckiest in the world. 0

The lights in the operating room went out, and the doctor emerged, drenched in sweat. 0

“The patient’s life has been saved, but he may be paralyzed in his legs. However, with proper rehabilitation training, he should be able to take care of himself.” 0

Wang Hui was paralyzed? 0

My mother-in-law’s cries echoed through the corridor again as Wang Hui was wheeled out, unconscious and connected to an oxygen tank. Looking at his ashen face, I felt a pang of guilt for the first time—was calling the police the wrong decision? 0

But soon, the nurse handed me something that made my worries dissipate instantly. 0

It was a pair of novelty underwear, clearly meant for men. The nurse handed it to me in a bag and said, “The patient was brought out from the hotel wearing only this.” 0

The last shred of guilt I felt vanished into thin air as my mother-in-law snatched the underwear from my hands, muttering, “This child went to the hotel for a business trip and took a nap without even wearing pajamas.” 0

She shot me a strange look before following the doctor to the ward. 0

My best friend Qin Qin, standing behind me, twisted her face in disgust upon seeing the underwear. 0

She cursed under her breath, “That bastard.” 0

I looked at her gratefully and said, “Qin Qin, you’re really good to me.” 0

Qin Qin’s twisted expression softened into an awkward smile at my words. 0

“Qin Qin, when Wang Hui wakes up, I plan to get a divorce,” I whispered to her. 0

Wang Hui and I have reached the end of our marriage. 0

It pains me to see him like this, and I plan to leave with our daughter, taking nothing but what we need, leaving the assets for him to undergo rehabilitation as my final act of compensation. Little did I know, Qin Qin's words left me frozen in place. 0

"You can't get a divorce. You mustn't divorce him," she insisted, her face taut with concern. 0

"Why can't I get a divorce? Wang Hui cheated on me. You don't think I'm the reason he ended up like this, do you?" 0

Qin Qin's expression remained unchanged as she stammered, "Right now, just after Wang Hui's incident, if you divorce him, people will say there's something wrong with your character." 0

"After all, not everyone knows about Wang Hui's infidelity. Just wait a bit longer until the storm passes before making any decisions." 0

Indeed, a good friend is looking out for me. Although I don't care about public opinion, I figured it was better to avoid unnecessary trouble and decided not to mention divorce at the hospital. 0

Wang Hui's reputation is in tatters; his fall from grace has sparked a small wave of gossip in the community. His company seized the opportunity to dismiss him. Although they paid him a severance package, he had been on the verge of a promotion to manager, and now his career is in ruins. 0

When I returned home, Wang Hui was listless and dejected—not just because of his paralysis but because he realized he was no longer capable. For a man, that is perhaps the hardest truth to accept. 0

Yet with me, Wang Hui was gentle, perhaps aware of his prior infidelity and trying to win my favor. He even joked, "Well now, I belong only to you." 0

Sitting there in his adult diaper, he looked at me with such intensity that it made me feel nauseous. 0

"What do you mean by that?" I asked coldly. 0

"I’m paralyzed now; I can't go out and find another woman. Doesn’t that mean I belong only to you?" 0

He licked his face and said, "I have indeed been looking for women outside, but just take a look at yourself. A hefty woman weighing over a hundred sixty pounds—who else would want you besides me?" 0

"And after you had the baby, everything down there is so loose. I'm a man, I have needs." 0

Anger surged to the top of my head as I clenched my fists, struggling to control myself from slapping him. 0

"Now that I'm not able to do anything, it's perfect for me to devote myself entirely to you. You're a hefty woman, and I'm paralyzed; aren't we just a match made in heaven?" 0

I could no longer tolerate it. I smashed the cup in my hand onto the floor and proposed a divorce. 0
