Wang Hui's eyes darted around as he nodded slightly.
I whispered, "I suspect Qin Qin is being kept by someone."
Wang Hui showed no surprise, instead wearing a calm expression. "How do you know?"
His gaze was as if he were looking at a fool.
"I overheard her on the phone, saying that if she had a child, it could be exchanged for five million."
It seemed the other party agreed.
Wang Hui asked in shock, "How much?"
"Five million, that's right. You heard me correctly."
Moreover, while I was helping her pack her things, I found this.
I took out the paternity test report, which showed a 99% blood relation between the child and Li Jian.
"This child is Li Jian's."
Wang Hui stared at the report, his face shifting from pale to flushed.
He gripped the paper tightly, nearly crumpling it.
"Don't squeeze it; if someone finds out, we're in trouble."
"I’m telling you this in secret because Qin Qin is about to leave."
"She’s leaving?"
"I saw her buy a ticket for next week; she’ll probably leave within this week."
"Then you won’t have to worry anymore."
In the darkness, Wang Hui’s eyes ignited with fury, his chest heaving violently.
Seeing him so enraged, I added fuel to the fire: "I wonder who will marry Qin Qin? Five million is quite a catch, even if it means taking over someone else's burden."
I lay back on the nearby bed, crossing my legs casually as I said leisurely, "What do you think, darling?"
Those words fell like a bucket of cold water on Wang Hui's head, snapping him back to reality.
"Who would be so lucky to marry Qin Qin?"
Seeing him lost in thought, I gently closed the door, leaving him alone to ponder.
The next day, Wang Hui and Qin Qin confronted me directly.
With their arms around each other, they looked down at me and said, "I might as well tell you the truth—my child is actually Wang Hui's."
I covered my mouth, staring at her in disbelief. "Qin Qin, do you even know what you're saying?"
Wang Hui wanted a divorce and demanded back the five hundred thousand he had given me for building a house.
Since he had already severed ties, I decided not to hold back. "When did I ever owe you five hundred thousand? That money was clearly for the child's fund."
Wang Hui's expression shifted dramatically. "Are you trying to scheme against me?"
"Please, Wang Hui, don't get a divorce. If you don't divorce me, my family is about to be relocated, and then the money will be ours anyway."
I clutched his arm tightly, unwilling to let go.
Wang Hui's face showed signs of struggle, while Qin Qin clung to him, saying, "I have your only son; if you don't marry me, he won't even have a household registration."
Qin Qin's sweet voice pulled Wang Hui back to reality. I wrapped my arms around his other arm, pleading, "I won't divorce you; if I do, I'll lose everything."
Wang Hui looked at me with disdain.
To finalize the divorce, he proposed a compensation of five hundred thousand plus three hundred thousand in child support.
Qin Qin interjected, "Once you take the money, your daughter will have nothing to do with Wang Hui; that needs to be clear."
I trembled all over; they thought I was going mad with anger.
In truth, I was exhilarated. Finally, I could break free from this man.
As I stepped out of the civil affairs bureau, I pretended to be reluctant.
Fearing that Wang Hui might change his mind, she hurriedly pushed him inside and completed the marriage registration.
I held my daughter and hopped into a hailed car, heading straight for the airport.
These two thought they had landed a golden son-in-law, unaware that the real drama was just beginning.
We have surveillance at home, so I occasionally took a look.
At first, they were all lovey-dovey, with my mother-in-law treating Qin Qin like a goddess.
But then Qin Qin asked for money:
"Since housing prices are low, let's buy a house for our son."
"Sure, whose name should it be under?" Wang Hui asked with a smile.
"Of course it should be under my son's name," Qin Qin said with an air of certainty.
They looked at each other, both hoping the other would cough up the cash. But neither spoke up.
"Where's your money? Hand it over to pay for the house," Qin Qin extended her hand toward Wang Hui.
"I don't have any money; I haven't worked in ages," Wang Hui replied, keeping his lips tightly sealed.
Qin Qin's expression changed:
"Wang Hui, don't think I don't know. Your mother has taken all your money. If you don't give me money now, you're treating me like an outsider."
Wang Hui's face darkened:
"Don't think I don't know either; it was you who called Chen Man to report me, right? I didn't pursue it, and you still have the nerve to ask for money?"
It was better not to mention money; once it was brought up, their relationship soured instantly.
