Bai Xiao Tu panted heavily, but she couldn't afford to stop and rest; the pack of werewolves could catch up at any moment. It was strange how, despite taking numerous detours, the werewolves seemed to follow her like shadows, forcing her deeper into the mountains. Indeed, werewolves were all perverse! As for the mysterious Wolf King, he was a true monster among monsters!
The Wolf Kingdom and the Snow Rabbit Kingdom had always had friction but rarely went to war. Who would have known that the new Wolf King, Feng Wang, was so eager to direct his firepower at the Snow Rabbit Kingdom?
This had forced her, a princess in her own right, to leave her home and now she found herself struggling like a laborer.
Seeing Bai Xiao Tu's determination to take him back, Lan Ruo stopped trying to persuade her; he didn't want to be fed any more carrots. Yet, even though Bai Xiao Tu was careful, the bumpy mountain path still jostled him against his wounds. To distract himself, Lan Ruo weakly said, "I want to eat meat."
His blurred vision fell on Bai Xiao Tu's black hair, damp with sweat under the moonlight, her skin as smooth as jade. She gritted her teeth, her face stubborn. His gaze traveled lower to her long neck, which seemed to beckon.
Suddenly, Bai Xiao Tu was in tears because the master began to hallucinate and was gently nibbling at her neck. The coolness of his teeth against her burning skin sent chills down her spine.
She remembered those ferocious werewolves that used their sharp fangs to tear apart their kin's throats.
"Master, once we get over this mountain... we'll reach the Snow Rabbit Kingdom. There’s meat everywhere and rain that falls like wine," Bai Xiao Tu managed to say with difficulty as she adjusted Lan Ruo on her back, finally keeping his teeth away from her neck.
"Oh." Lan Ruo replied obediently for once; his breath against Bai Xiao Tu's ear was becoming shallower.
His vitality was slowly fading away.
Bai Xiao Tu couldn't stop because she knew that only by hurrying back to the Snow Rabbit Kingdom would Lan Ruo have a chance at salvation.
Even if she were slow-witted, Bai Xiao Tu understood that her feelings for Lan Ruo Monk were no longer just simple guilt. Perhaps it was when he fought desperately in the bamboo house to resolve her crisis, or when he refused to become a burden despite his injuries. Or maybe even earlier, when he had carried her while picking through the rubble of the dilapidated temple—she had started to like him then.
Bai Xiao Tu had never seen someone like him, seemingly carefree yet deeply loyal. Therefore, before Lan Ruo could respond to her feelings, he must not come to harm!
"Why are you crying?" A cool drop of liquid fell onto Lan Ruo's hand, and he half-opened his eyes, weakly asking.
"That's sweat! Sweat!" Bai Xiao Tu retorted. Yet, her slightly choked voice and reddened nose had already betrayed the truth.
Even the most delicate person would become strong in front of their beloved. Bai Xiao Tu was no exception; though terrified and anxious, she stubbornly bore everything for his sake. It was true in the bamboo house, and even more so now. The moonlight was too hazy, and Bai Xiao Tu was too enchanting, causing Lan Ruo to unconsciously lean closer and gently place a kiss on her ear.
The person beneath him stiffened, prompting Lan Ruo to close his eyes in contentment. He relaxed and allowed Bai Xiao Tu to lead him over mountains and through valleys.
The moonlight was clear and beautiful, stretching their shadows long on the mountain path, depicting a posture of mutual dependence.
