An Nuan said something and cautiously nudged Ye Yunfeng before quickly leaving.
Ye Yunfeng turned around, watching An Nuan's retreating figure, his gaze deepening.
As for Chu Lingchuan, he watched Ye Yunfeng's reaction with great interest, though the smile on his lips was no longer as carefree as before.
"Ye Yunfeng, don’t blame me for not reminding you. Bringing someone like that to the Ye Family, are you planning to let them devour her?"
"Perhaps it will spark something different," Ye Yunfeng replied nonchalantly, causing the muscles at the corner of Chu Lingchuan's eye to twitch.
"Something different? Are you kidding me? Even my cousin would have to tread carefully at the Ye Family. Do you really think this little lamb can turn into a lion or tiger in that den of wolves? If it were up to me, you should just go with my cousin; ordinary women don’t survive in the Ye Family."
"I'm not one of the Ye Family," Ye Yunfeng retorted with a hint of sarcasm, leaving Chu Lingchuan momentarily speechless.
Furrowing his brow slightly, he looked at Ye Yunfeng with unusual seriousness. "You claim you're not part of the Ye Family while benefiting from their resources? You grew up in the Ye Family, eating and drinking from them. The conglomerate you hold now is also theirs. Even if you have no intention of staying with the Ye Family, they certainly don’t see it that way. Ye Yunfeng, what are you really thinking? You’ve suffered in the past; do you truly want to pretend it never happened? I don’t remember you being this generous before."
"I never claimed to be generous," Ye Yunfeng coldly huffed, seemingly indifferent to Chu Lingchuan’s mention of the Ye Family.
Chu Lingchuan took a deep breath and suddenly looked at Ye Yunfeng with a puzzled expression. "Then why drag an innocent woman into this?"
"Innocent?" Ye Yunfeng questioned.
"Not innocent?" Chu Lingchuan retorted.
Looking at Lu An Nuan, this little lamb either appeared as pure as a blank slate or was a master of schemes so deep that even he, Chu Lingchuan, couldn't see through them.
At the moment, it seemed to be mostly the former.
"She forced me, innocent?"
"Forced you?"
Chu Lingchuan's jaw nearly dropped in disbelief.
Damn!
"Do you even have any shame left? If you didn't want it, who could force you? Ye Yunfeng, how did I not know you were this kind of person? You can trick young girls, but me?"
"You aren't worth deceiving!"
Ye Yunfeng revealed a hint of a smile, his eyes glinting with calculation, then disdainfully added, "That's why you don't have a wife."
"Damn it, Ye Yunfeng, just wait! Do you believe I can make this old woman suffer so much that you two lovebirds will fly apart right now?"
"You can try."
With that, Ye Yunfeng cast a glance at You Fengqiu and turned to leave.
Her graceful steps carried no hint of hesitation.
You Fengqiu watched as his daughter walked away, and now the man who had come with her, claiming to be her husband, was leaving as well. Fear began to creep in.
"Um... Ye Yunfeng, wait a moment."
"Oh?"
Ye Yunfeng paused in his stride, turning back with a curious look at You Fengqiu.
"To sell your daughter for personal gain, to be unambitious, to drain her of her hard work, and then to turn around and strike her—do you really expect me to show you any mercy?"
"Aren't you my daughter's husband?"
"Yes."
"Then take me with you."
You Fengqiu said this without any politeness, seemingly forgetting that he had just been violent.
Ye Yunfeng scoffed. "You just harmed my woman. What right do you have to make demands of me now?"
