"I'm not!"
Di Ming was desperate to explain himself, but given the circumstances, nothing he said seemed to convince anyone anymore.
Feeling helpless as he looked at An Nuan in front of him, Di Ming made the most foolish decision of his life: he decided to run away.
With a swift motion, he disappeared without a trace.
An Nuan watched the scene unfold, feeling inexplicably stunned. Was her luck really at its lowest today?
"Damn it, he actually ran off! An Nuan, just wait! I swear I'll track that unscrupulous character down!" Shuo Shuo erupted with anger.
An Nuan quickly grabbed Shuo Shuo's sleeve. "Forget it. It's just a breach of contract fee. As long as I can terminate the contract, I refuse to believe I can't turn things around!"
Pulling Lan Shuo Shuo along, An Nuan completely disregarded the film crew's affairs and declared boldly, "I'm done acting." With that, she strode away with determination.
What lay ahead might be demands for compensation or news of her walking off the set. But after being in this industry for so long, this was the most satisfying moment she had ever experienced.
"Nuan Nuan, are you really okay?" Shuo Shuo asked worriedly in a coffee shop outside the film city.
An Nuan shook her head. "I'm clearer-headed than ever."
"Then what about your mom..."
"She doesn't need me to worry about her anymore." Her mother wouldn't be in trouble; it was just that she wasn't sure if her "good" mother would finally give up gambling once the news of her breach of contract and the required compensation came out. This was a high-stakes gamble, and the outcome was uncertain.
After chatting with Shuo Shuo for a while and finding a place to eat, the call came at four in the afternoon.
"Lu An Nuan, the decision from above is out. Fifty million in compensation, to be paid in full within three days. If you can't pay it off, just wait to be sued in court!"
"Anything else?" An Nuan was unusually calm, and this very calmness deprived Ye Meiqi of the sadistic pleasure she sought.
"Else?" Convinced that Lu An Nuan was just feigning composure, Ye Meiqi chuckled, "Of course there's more. Since you want to know, I'll kindly tell you: if you don't pay off the money, the company won't terminate your contract. But if you don't pay it off, you'll just end up in jail!"
"Xiao Ruoyu is already yours. I don't remember any deep-seated grudge between us besides that."
"I just can't stand your hypocritical pretense of purity. I don't believe that you, with no way out, can maintain this self-righteous purity!" Ye Meiqi sneered and decisively hung up the phone. An Nuan could only hear the "beep-beep-beep—" sound coming from the receiver.
Pure? She had already sold herself, hadn't she?
"Shuo Shuo, do you think Ye Meiqi is out of her mind?"
After opening her mouth for a while, An Nuan only managed to utter that one sentence. Shuo Shuo looked at An Nuan in surprise and said, "You said you had something to tell me, and this is it?"
"Uh... I guess so..." She had originally wanted to say that she was married but didn't know how to express it.
